Wealthy Affiliate Scam Email - Don't Fall For It

Last Update: May 21, 2019

Hi WA family, there is a scam email going around asking people to update their financial information, don't fall for it. They appear to be trying to get the email improved as they are sending it out, here is my screen shot.
Don't fall for it, Denise.

This is absolutely a phishing scam and we are investigating here. Thanks for letting us know and DO NOT send any payment details over email, or skype ever.

Hi, Denise,

My concern is not that of the email I can spot them as soon as I open them up. The screenshot below is a fake email I received today.

However, the thing about this particular email is how did this person know you were a member of Wealthy Affiliate?

Seems how Loes received one also are the members here being focused out for a reason?

if you read Kyle responded to Loes' blog and they are looking into this matter (on the ball as normal).

Got to love how the community sticks together and protects each other!!

Hi Calvin these scammers are a lot more tech savvy than we give them credit for I am not sure how they found out this info, but they do. The big thing is too never give away your info. Have a great day, Denise.

Tech savy ... yup. English language ... not so much, but that can be corrected

Hi Dennis,

It's funny that you would point that out. I have heard in the past that most scammers create material with errors in them intentionally to prevent the wise form getting hooked.

it is much easier to suck money from a desperate and not so intelligent individual that it is from a wise and very informed person.

Sad to say it's as if they are fishing for the easier prey just by making a minor grammatical error alert many people it's a scam. But those that are not as aware of such schemes or are well informed may not notice such an intentional mistake.

Makes you wonder how smart these individuals really are some times!!

My biggest concern is the question Loes has asked. Did the WA email system get hacked? Very anxious to here back from Kyle.

Oh, WoW this makes me sick to my stomach.

Thank you for helping keep everyone safe!

I try to go into my spam and report what I'm able to to the companies the latest scammers claim to be from.

Except for that Chinese steel company--I'm the next known heir--I don't want to ruin that comeuppance (funny NoT funny!) It takes my adoptive family calling me an 'honorary Asian' to a whole new level.

I remember getting a fake WA email somewhere in the first 2 years I was here. It was well written but, luckily it had a ton of red flags so I just reported it to Kyle I think.

Much appreciated Denise!

Ps. WA on SKYPE bahahaha, my goodness, Kyle and the crew would never get a second to themselves!

Thanks for your comment, I enjoyed reading it. We can see it is fake but some people may not, you can never be too careful. Have a great day Denise.

Oh wow! Thanks for the heads up on this, Denise. The first sentence is off-putting and the fact that they only want to communicate through Skype would give me pause. It does show they are getting better at their deception though. Would be good to hear from Kyle about this, too.

Thanks for you comment, Kyle did reply and say they are onto it.

Discusting that someone has done that but a reminder that scammers are out there and to always be vigilant.

Luckily that message is full of red flags and hopefully hasn't fooled anybody.

Poor English
A Gmail email address that is not consistent with the company name
Attempt to communicate off platform

All red flags to watch out for.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the warning. Actually, that's a French dude, trying to communicate in English. Don't take them for fools. they are smart. If you just focus on the Grammer alone, you might fall for them when you see another email different from the one you had. I think, like some already said, what to take home is to never accept giving private or financial information on emails. Thanks for the warning again, Denise.

Several tell-tale signs are:

The one everyone points out 'Me is Kyle', but there are several others:

1/ The English Grammar is not correct in several places

2/ Anyone who knows Kyle and his style of writing will know he didn't write this message

3/ I'm telling you... this is not how you address people in business

4/ Greetings @ Wealthy Affiliate Team! - at the end of the message - this is back to front!

5/ ..for discuss account problems... this is bad English

:-)

I had noticed these but it is very likely that the scammers will have access to WA and I didn't want to educate them. Thank you.

It really shouldn't be you posting this Denise... (if you know what I mean!).

It needs a blog from Kyle or Carson to set people's minds at rest - or some kind of live ticker at the top of WA telling people a scam email has been sent out and we should ignore it.

Thank you anyway though.

What a pitiful attempt at a scam!

You would think these morons would at least use spellcheck before sending!

"Me is Kyle" - if there was a Nobel prize for stupidity you'd be a leading contender.

Yes, but next time they may get better.

Well Denise, if they don't get better they'll probably starve to death on account of having zero income.

Thank you for keeping us informed.

The first line is a give away "Me is Kyle from Wealthy Affiliate"

This shows me that English is there second language.

It is a shame that they have nothing better to do with their time.

Thanks again for building awareness about this

I know and then they go on to say Kyle and I do the technical stuff, well we all know Carson does that. Just as long as no-one gets scammed I will be happy.
