Getting Amazon Right!

Hello all newbies, is Amazon driving you demented?

This is a quick blog inspired by the comments and questions I keep seeing here in the Wealthy Affiliate Community.

Amazon Affiliate Program

As we go through our training we are obviously taught to become affiliate members of different opportunities, Amazon being a biggie.

Before I think I had even 10 blogs on my website I applied to and was accepted by Amazon, this is good and bad.

Rules Rules Rules

Once you are a member of their Assoicate Program you have to make 3 sales within a 180 day period, following strict guidelines. Unfortunately most of us will not do that, and will need to reapply to Amazon.

Amazon have incredibly strict rules to follow when it comes to promoting their products, you need to spend time reading and understanding them. Don't think you can wing it, because you will be kicked off the program.

Sink or Swim

As a newbie going diligently through the training, I followed it step by step and did all the tasks set out. In hindsight I wish I had not applied to Amazon so early in my business. Why, well I was so focused on the training I did not fully understand how complicated Amazon appeared at the time. I am now ready to learn their rules, quite frankly understand them way better than before, and apply them to a website that has well over 10 blogs in it now.

If this is you, don't despair, you can reapply to Amazon if you need to if you have not made the sales. I would not try to promote them until you know exactly how to do this. I am now in the process of un-publishing some pages until I have all the Amazon regulations correct. I do not want to be banned from Amazon, as I believe they are a large part of the affiliate online world.

WA Training

Fortunately for us there is so much training available here at WA, and I am now working my way through all the available training, starting with this one.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/being-an-amazon-aff...

If you are going to be an Amazon Affiliate do it correctly and if you need to, watch all the training you can.

Give Up On Amazon?

NO, I have no intention of doing this. Their commissions are low, and there is a learning curve, but at the end of the day, they could be your bread and butter for your business. I have read too many blogs and comments here supporting being an Amazon affiliate, get over the learning curve and do it correctly, to profit from them.

If you don't want to apply to Amazon there are so many alternatives to use. I have searched the internet for products in my niche and was amazed at the programs available. I have applied and been accepted by them. This searching has also led me to some very interesting opportunities that are not on Amazon and have resulted in giving my niche business its own unique opportunities to promote, so a win win situation.

All newbies if you are about to join Amazon as per the training, I would suggest holding off until you are ready to use them. Instead look at the new Affiliate Programs platform right here on WA, and use this instead. Join Amazon once you have traffic to your website.

Thanks for reading and please let me know your opinion in the comments below.

This is very timely as I am actually following the training steps and after reading this blog, am totally thinking I shouldn't have applied so soon to amazon........ I feel totally overwhelmed and am not feeling that the added pressure of having to make 3 sales in 180 days is going to help any. I think I will send an email request to cancel the application for the time being.

I really appreciate your feedback and blog on this. This has been been extremely helpful.

Thanks Denise

Hi, just keep working through the training here at WA, and once your finish your core training, come back to Amazon, as I am doing now, and you will find it will not be that hard to do. When you get to that stage shout out for help, I would not worry too much about canceling your amazon application, you will have time to get it right. They don't actually review your site until you have made the sales. Hope this helps, Denise.

Hi Denise - I agree with your analysis. Amazon is just one basket to put your eggs in, and if nothing else you will learn how to add an affiliate link to your website. They don't give you much help but you learn by trial and error (true for me anyway) and that has value.
Jay

Hi Jay and thanks for your comment, I am on a mission to get Amazon right on my website, and really when you start working through all the training here, and get lucky enough to catch Kyle in live chat as I have just done, it gets easier and easier. Have a great day, Denise.

Been there, done that! You're right, Denise! Amazon is a big part of the online market. I plan to reapply once I have adequate traffic coming to my site. Until then, I'm working on posting more consistently, and on researching and utilizing other affiliate programs

Much success to you! :)
Colleen

Hi Colleen, I think in the beginning my focus is on creating a well established website, then i will focus on all the affiliate opportunities. Thank you for your comment. Have a great day, Denise.

Hi Denise,
Yes signing up to Amazon to early can be a problem.

In my opinion it is to early in the training to sign up with them due to the restrictions they have.

I have decided to wait until my content is up, at the moment I have 20 posts.

Also I will be waiting until the traffic picks up as well.
Thanks for sharing
Darren

Hi Darren, I personally believe this is a wise move, as long as you do have other affiliate programs you have joined. Have a great day, Denise.

Thanks....

Hi Denise,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
I joined Amazon shortly after getting my site up and running. My account was removed due to the 3 sales rule. I got the email warning me, and I tried to get referral sales, but suppose that didn't work either. After reading some testimonials here in WA, I joined again, but now I'm wondering if I should hold off until I get more traffic.

It had me questioning my niche, and going bonkers about those 3 sales. lol

I rejoined and will try to get those sales.

Hi and thanks for your comment, hopefully you will get your sales, have a great day, Denise.

good afternoon my friend, I think you for making this blog, because also when I first joined over a year ago I made that mistake of signing up with Amazon. because I was new and didn't really know what I was doing at that moment, they wind up kick me out the door. It was a very good idea for someone to give the heads up, thank you once again.

Thank you for your comment, sorry they booted you out of the door, hopefully you have reapplied. Have a great day Denise.

Thanks Denise, It’s nice getting unexpected, off the cuff tips that aren’t actually rules. Tips are actually pieces of advise gained through experience. Break a rule and suffer the consequences. Duh, duh, duh! Amazon is like a big, scary monolith that just takes over and chews up everything in it’s path like a level five hurricane. I’m almost scared of Amazon and a approach it cautiously.

Eric

Hi Eric, thanks for your comment. I won't let Amazon scare me, so that is the reason I recommend holding off until you have watched all the available training. Have a great day, Denise.

There's a fellow asking questions about Amazon on here right now. He needs to read your post.

Thanks Fran, hopefully he will see it and help him to make a decision, have a great day.
Denise.

Thanks for the inspiration Denise!

You are welcome.
