Core “Business Start Up” Training

I am in the midst of building my websites and going through the training, but for some reason, I'm struggling to get my sites the way I want them, regarding images and layout a

Try to fix only one thing at a time. Stic to that until you are satisfied. Otherwise, it is overwhelming.

Thanks for the advice. I think that is my problem, trying to juggle to many things at once. Much appreciated.

It's a growing process. You learn as you go. I started out with a basic WordPress course! That fit in very well as WA is WordPress integrated with site development.
Build a little, test a little. Extensive "how to" on virtually every aspect is in our knowledge base

Thank you for your advice. I definetely will look into a Wordpress course. Although the training here is quite detailed and extensive, I could still do with a bit more information. thank you.

I had some struggles with my first website also. The theme I wanted didn't work properly, and so I had to change it. The theme has a lot to do with what you can and cannot do, so if you are having some difficulties, maybe try switching that up. It helped me. Also, take a look at available free plug-ins, because they may help with some of the things you want to do also. Once I caught on to that, it helped also, though again there was a lot of trial and error to find what I wanted. It takes time, but don't give up. Also, the most important thing is to start building content. You can do that, and in your "spare" moments (I say that jokingly, as most of us don't have much in the way of spare time), experiment with themes and plugins. Your content will remain even if you change / add those things.

Thank you Anika, I will try what you have suggested, as it can be quite frustrating when you have a particular layout in mind, yet bringing it into reality is more of a feat than expected. Much appreciated.

Hello Dee, you will not get your website exactly how you want it, right off the bat. The important thing is to get it up and visible. Then make adjustments as you become more experienced. Also check the training that other members have posted. I am sure some of those will help you out.

Ahhhh Harvey, I never thought of that! I wanted it to be perfect, straight away. Thank you for your advice. I will keep going and look out for additional training. Thank you so much.

I had a hard time with my first site. Just keep at it. Things will fall into place.

Thank you Pablo. I'll keep pushing.

good post

I want to add that everyone has frustration and confusion on their first website. It's like learning any new complex thing. It's overwhelming at first, then gradually it becomes normal.

Soon enough you'll be a master.

Between Google searches, the search bar at the top of this page and the helpful WA community you can get through any issue eventually.

Thank you. I look forward to being a Master at it ;)
Although I feel a long way from Mastery at the moment, none the less, I understand that Perseverance is Paramount.

Thank you for the encouragement.

Chose your theme that accepts all the basic plugins, and work on your content. Design can be changed later on.
The difficult thing for me is adding content.

I'm glad that it's not just me! ha ha.
As I created one of my pages, I realised, "wait a minute, what do I write", so there I sat, staring at the blinking cursor staring back at me.

Thank you for your advice, I will surely take it on board.

LOL, we can make it to the end.

I wouldn't focus too much on the visual appearance of your website at this stage, how it looks won't get you ranked, content will. You can always come back to the design once your content starts getting indexed and ranked and you're seeing some traffic. You'll find changing themes is relatively easy, give something like Customizr a try which is popular with many members at WA.

Thank you for your advice. I realise that I was focusing on the wrong thing. Much appreciated.

You're most welcome! :)

I'm exactly where you are right now, though I'm still trying to generate article content. But I've yet to figure out how to attach spreadsheet files and other things to my website. I'm following this thread.

We'll get through this together. I've just been getting sooo frustrated with myself.

Yeah, I'm exceptionally tough on myself, the best thing to do is to cut yourself a break. When you give yourself a pass, you'd be surprised how much and how quickly you can work.
