Hi! I'm relatively new to the whole 'affiliate marketing' scene. I received my first "opt-in" email in late December of 2013. I'm not entirely sure how the marketer managed to find me, nor do I remember who the first was! But I do know that after that first sale, I was hooked. I've since invested so, so much money on so many amazing, truly great products/software.

My problem, though is that they're all sitting on my desktop or backed up in some storage device or cloud - royally collecting dust... of the worst kind! From what I've read, my story is not uncommon at all. I suppose knowing I'm not alone helps a bit, but I can't lie - I'm very frustrated at this point.

How did I find Wealthy Affiliate? I was researching "how to buy newly expired domains"... few reasons...

1. I have so many products (PLR, MRR, Etc.) collecting dust.

2. I'm a web/graphic and WordPress designer and have a business already (I've been building WordPress sites and designing anything imaginable for both web and print since the summer of 2010) ... point being - I have the skills necessary to get this thing off the ground; just need to go with it!

3. Obviously, I need domains.

4. I don't know what else to do to get a list started.

Confession: (This hurts me to admit it!) My portfolio/business website is STILL not complete. :( I know, I know! Terrible, bad bad girl! ... I run my business more on word of mouth, Facebook, LinkedIn, Fiverr, and other random freelancing sites.

Problem? I'm not making enough money. Not near enough. My education is in the medical field. I was an X-ray tech for nearly a decade before I decided to go full-time-web. It's been insane. There have been some amazing (far and few between, mind you!) moments - and there have been a lot... a whole lot more low moments.

Of course I have learned an invaluable amount of experience/knowledge along the road ... and I'm a fighter! I do genuinely persevere even when (and sometimes more-so) when the going gets tough. I brush myself off and keep on keeping on. Maybe to a fault. But there it is.

So now I've been 'full time web' since Jan 2013 - starting with purely website/design clients - and leading me to the path of "attempting" (and I do mean attempting!) to figure out this whole "wealth as an affiliate marketer" deal ... I've made little progress.

I do feel like I have all the skills I need to get going and really, truly succeed; but for whatever reason, I can't seem to get my feet off the ground. I'm barely making it currently - I'm being ridiculously open, raw, and honest here! ... But what more have I got to lose? :) (I won't bore you with the gory details of my career nose-dive)

But I will tell you the Cliff's, Cliff's Cliff's Cliff's version of it. ;) ... When I dove into full time web back in Jan of 2013, I went from making nearly $60K/year, almost purchasing my first home, and earning an additional $10-$15K/year doing web stuff on the side .... to... wait for it....

(After a long, tragic, crazy wild course of life events) - where I am today.

Living in an Air Stream Trailer in my parent's back yard. (There, I said it.)

Being on Medicaid and Food Stamps.

Doing the odd website job from time to time which (when I'm paid) - no matter how much I'm paid, all the funds immediately vanish into thin air due to my debt to income ratio being - let's not even go there. 0_o ....

I'm looking at filing bankruptcy

I'm raising my 14 year old son in this situation (dad "opted out" after a horrible custody battle just four months after I left my career in the medical field).... long story short? Good riddance. :) Nuff said.

I cannot believe it, but here we are looking at 2016 staring at us in the face. That will mark my 3 year anniversary of what I call a "glorified work gap" ... I fill in the gap on my resume with all sorts of mumbo jumbo about my entrepreneurship success in website design! Not a lie entirely - but also not something that seems to appeal to those in the hiring seat.

I have two degrees. Associates and Bachelor's (both in the medical field) - 10 years experience as an X-ray tech, and now a three year gap in employment. This causes a huge problem for me...

I can't seem to catch a break and land a job back in X-ray because potential employers see that gap and (I have to assume) automatically send my resume to the shredder!

I can't seem to land a job with a 'real life' brick and mortar web design business where the pay is consistent and reliable... why? Because I taught myself every single thing I know. I went from (no, seriously) barely even having an email address in 2007 ... and not even knowing what a "domain name" was ---- to being able to design beautiful WordPress websites hosted on my own server, being able to use Photoshop right up there with the big shots!... Learning Illustrator and InDesign currently, and most recently delving into online marketing.

So what's the problem? I don't have that piece of paper they're after. Sure, I have experience, but I don't have the design degree. That and my website has had an eternal coming soon page on it. :( ... Honestly? I think it's because I've gotten so far behind that the daunting task of filling in every single project, website, video, design, etc etc etc is overwhelming to a point of 'no action at all'.

The third option I've looked at is finding work in other non-medical, non-web related fields (basically starting from ground zero; even though I'm pretty close to 40K in student loan debt) .... Problem with this approach? The powers that be in the HR hiring portal seem to weed through my resume as fast as the medical people do! Why? Simple. Why on earth would I be applying for a job at Big Lots or Best Buy or some secretarial job making minimum wage - when I have all of this experience and education?

Basically, to them - I'm "over-qualified" ... So here we are again - I don't know where I'll end up but I do know one thing for sure. I'm ready for change. I'm smart. I'm a very fast learner. I'm desperately eager to learn what I need to learn to get my online business off the ground.

I'm basically the world's most prime/prepped/ideal candidate for someone looking to mentor another someone - molding them into the perfect affiliate marketing superstar that they envision.

I have the 'inventory', I have the skills, I have a TON of time.... I just haven't yet found my mentor I suppose. I hope Wealthy Affiliate will be a game-changer for me. Because frankly, I've smooth run out of options and time. Something's simply got. to. give.

That's my story (well, a tiny fraction of it!)... Thanks for reading if you dared to do so and I am very excited and hopeful about meeting folks around here! :)

Talk soon!

All that crazy negative thinking that you're getting about your qualifications and your work history, just chalk it up to the ravings of a dying system. Wow, what a story, you write really well. I felt every word. I am in the same position as you in the job market. I went from making good money down to zero and have not found a job in 4 months. I have no savings. Doesn't help the mood swings. I stumbled across WA after being scammed out of money that I didn't have to just throw away either. I have only been here a short while myself. I don't think you will have any problem here. You know you way around a website. I hope you enjoy what Wealthy Affiliate has to offer and that you can get your feet up off the ground. Wishing you alllllllllll the best.

Hi Deb, Thanks for the follow. You have a great talent. I know that I would have several questions for you right now! Over the last few years I had all kinds of time and really tried to make a go on the internet. The end result was little or nothing. The last 3 years I had to take on 3 jobs working almost 70 hours a week to support my family because my wife was disabled and we have a special needs son at home as well. The last couple of months I made a decision that nothing was going to stop me and that I would do whatever it takes to make it. The end result is that the last 2 months I have accomplished more doing 3 jobs and no time then I ever did when I had all the time in the world.
I know that you can do it also. We both have found the missing piece of the puzzle and that is a proven roadmap to success here at WA. Best of luck to you. Dave.

Hello Debliz: I did , I spent the time and read every word of it. I chalked it all up to a severe case of the blues, coupled with a menagerie of depressions. That's something I'm. a little bit familiar with. Many girls in the hood, with many more heart wrenching stories than yours, and hundreds of times less the resources you say you have, are surviving. Some wish they had going on what you seemingly have going on educationally, intellectually, etc. I learned years ago, that the blues and depression is a form of selfishness, a way of seeking attention, internally. Debliz, believe me, life isn't fair--all the time, Sometimes it gives you lemons, sometimes throws you down, but you've got to learn that you can make lemonade, and you can pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try it again. Are you spiritual at all? If not, try borrowing some of it's principles. I use these principles when I need to. I've made them mine: (1) Every thing I set my hand to shall prosper; (2) No weapon formed against me shall prosper; (3) Every thing I set my hand to shall prosper; (4) I am more than a conqueror. Use these as mantra all the time. Let your Higher Power as you know It, give you the comfort and care and ability to overcome whatever you need to overcome. I think with that and WA's help you will succeed. Have a good day and future.

Man, you nailed it! I try to stay outwardly optimistic but I deal with chronic depression, anxiety, and a host of other issues... As mentioned briefly in my profile page, I chose not to share my entire life story.. It's not by any means the worst - someone indeed always has it worse!

I'm actually quite grateful for the roof over my head and my wonderful parents. I just spoke with my mother outside - it's cold in TX this morning and it's a gorgeous day. I told mom how much I appreciated and loved her. She's my best friend in the world.

To expand on my story just a tiny bit, I did just two months ago finally get out of a very abusive relationship of five years. So I'm crawling my way back up. There's so, so much more to my story than what I've shared - but you're right. Dwelling in self pity is very attention-seeking behavior. I can honestly say that was not by any means my intention with my introduction.

I am, however quite frustrated with this internet business thing. It's just so flippant and unpredictable. But with every thing that happens in my life, good and bad, I've become just that much stronger. I'm currently in counseling (as is my boy) so we can overcome things in our quite recent past. I'm doing the best I can and I have high hopes and aspirations for the future.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. ... I claim Jesus' promises on a moment by moment basis. He is my rock and salvation and I believe with all of my heart that He has beautiful, perfect plans for not only my life, but for that of my precious son's. Without my faith, I'd be long gone. I'm a recovered alcoholic (3 1/2 years on the 30th of this month!) :) So I do have so much to be grateful for... so much more than I consciously think about from day to day. I may just challenge myself to write down one thing (at least) every day that I'm grateful for or is a blessing in my life. Could prove to be more therapeutic than all of my counselors and psychiatrists combined. ;-)

I appreciate your honesty and openness towards me. And I will do my best to not dwell on my past but be excited about the future. I know all is going to work out according to His perfect plan - so to be anything but excited, I'd be contradicting my profession of faith.

You have a great day and rest of your week. And good luck with your future endeavors! :)

Love love love your story - perhaps because so many elements of it ring scarily true for me!! Mostly the self-taught, over-skilled and under"qualified" bit (54 years of age, 36 years' experience, no degree... Hello - anyone out there??... cue sound of crickets...) You also sound a bit like you have a touch of "next shiny object" syndrome, something to which I can also relate. Hopefully this course will help kick both of us up the bum and get us out of our respective ruts. With your great attitude and fabulous communication style I predict you will be one person we shall watch making stellar progress. Can't wait to see it happen! :-)

Wow that's some profile you have there Deb.

With all your WordPress web design and graphic design skills have you thought about getting yourself onto some freelancing websites like: freelancer.com elance.com and upwork.com

They're all free to register on and you don't need qualifications you just need to be good

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks Alan! :) ... I'm kinda blushing a bit now! I figured I went wayyyy overboard - I tend to go on and on and on and... where was I?

Right! About the freelancing sites... I really do need to expand my horizons lol. I've kind of gotten stuck in a rut with Fiverr - it's a good place to build up my design portfolio but the money really does suck. And it takes up too much valuable time.

Example A: I'm 5 pages away from completing a client website which will get me paid my final $870 paycheck.... and also which will lead into a second website they've hired me for (and have already paid the first half payment down ($1250)... Upon completion, I'll get another 1250 for the second site's completion!

Yet what do I do? I fiddle-fart around with two gigs on fiverr totaling a crappy grand total of approx $60 (BEFORE Fiverr's exorbitant fees) - Why do I DO this! Oy!

Yep, this community is definitely going to be my home for some time, I'm sure of it! And I'm going to register for those other freelancing sites soon. Probably should finish up my current client work first, though eh?

Talk about Shiny Object Syndrome! lol

Thx again Alan for leading me here via your website - I'm definitely going to be signing up for the premium membership. I pay way more (than the regular premium membership price) in fees for other BS each month and it has gotten me nowhere, flat! ...

Yay! So pumped! :))

That's a massive 59% discount on the normal price of $47 (There should be a timer set at the top of the page showing how much time you have left to claim your discount!)

For now though just have a good look around and enjoy yourself!

Let me know if I can help you out with anything else and I'll touch base with you again in a couple of days to see how you're getting on.
