SEO optimization thoughts

One of the members I followed on here posted on this recently, so I thought I would chime in with what I have experienced....

I am new here on WA, so you can take my experience with a grain of salt, but I do have some experience with improving a websites SEO rankings.

Before I joining WA, I worked A LOT on getting my bed and breakfast website up in the rankings with much the same idea that is used here in going for low-hanging fruit.

It did work, but one thing I learned is that google-bots are never stationery. Meaning that the factors used to rank websites change and the percentage of each key factor can change over time as well.

So back links and content might have been the two key factors back in May of 2016 (when the reference in another blog post on here was published), but it may have changed many times since then.

What I have learned from this is that one should never assume that there is a set formula search engines use in ranking websites. For instance, content and in-bound links may be the majority of what makes for successful rankings one day, but out-bound links and age of site may become more important next month.

I think the moral of the story is to always be paying attention to ALL key factors in getting your website(s) to rank within SEO. If you focus only on content and it is very important this month, but not next month, your website could significantly drop in rankings. However, if you are focusing on doing everything possible to make your website good in all ranking aspects at least your site will not entirely drop out of site when Google and other search engines change their matrix.

I hope this is helpful to any of my followers out there. Happy Thanksgiving!!

This is great advice and something that I have tried to do from the start. Thanks for sharing! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

I did! Ate far too much though so I am ready to get back to my training here on WA and at my gym! ;-)

Content has consistently remained a primary factor in SEO, and inbound links are also critical. The SEO experts I know calculate well over 200 different factors as part of the Google algorithms determining ranking. These do change, especially with each Google "dance" as well as daily changes by your competitors. Therefore focus on what you can control, like content, and choosing "white hat" strategies (not trying to trick Google), and your ranking will stay pretty solid on an on-going basis.

Experience is the best teacher. Thanks for sharing your perspective.
