My method of writing product reviews

I was a little hesitant about writing product reviews at first unless I actually used a product myself, but I'm getting the hang of it now. Thought I would share what I do if anyone else out there might be struggling with it.

I'm sure that the veterans here could probably give further input on what they do in writing reviews. So this post is also an invitation for any others to chime in on methods they have used as I am definitely open to further suggestions myself.

1) Visit manufacturers site for their description of product (obviously won't be any negatives here, but will give me a good starting point for features to highlight in my review).

2) Search in Youtube for videos of product reviews, setup, operation, etc.

3) Read reviews of product on Amazon. For products with numerous reviews, I try to read a handful of positive reviews but also search for negative reviews.

I try to always make sure that I come up with things I notice are consistently the good aspects of the product I am reviewing but also try to point out some of the negatives as well. You want to make your review believable and you want to be trusted by your followers so always try to give an overall fair review.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated as well.

That is for physical products I believe. How about reviews on affiliate marketing, because I'm struggling with it

Thank you. I will take your advice into account.

That is a good system David and the good thing about that is that it creates a routine. I have found setting up a Google alert for niche related topics brings relative information also joining related Facebook groups .
You soon get to know other marketers in your niche it can be handy to sign up for their mail lists. Page 1 and 2 on Google is a sure fire way to garner information or at the very least make us look at different ways to approach the niche.
Thanks for sharing I am watching with interest.

I'm mixing it up a little with reviews and blog posts but find that I have been focusing more on the posts rather than product reviews.

I know I need to get a balance, but I have some great long tail keywords that I just grab from Jaaxy and just start writing.

A successful WA member once wrote that all your ideas and research can be found on Google Pages 1-3.

Just something to bear in mind rather than just sitting there in front of your laptop trying to find some inspiration.

Very thorough and well articulated. I have found that even in the most negative meeting, situation, or product/company - that a positive can be taken away as well. So I try to voice my opinion with balance. Peace my friend. :-)

Buzz!

Thank you for this. You have some great ideas. I still hate reviewing things. It does not naturally flow for me like my how to or why posts.

Karen, I am soooo glad I am not the only one! I would much rather write blogs than product reviews. But let's face it, if we want any income we need to do reviews too. HA!

1

I know, I know... lol. I am the reluctant reviewer. It's not that I can't but it's no fun.

2

Notes on any books...Karen?

Don't ask me for advice on reviews, I am terrible at them. If there was a book I'd tell you

Very helpful. Many thanks for this post.

Good points to note David!
It would be great to get product samples. Some bloggers do. I know of one that gets free coffee machines.

1

I agree and have thought that even purchasing product would at least be a business write-off. But let's face it, how many coffee machines does one need! HA!

2

This bloke from Canada, I forget his name, has so many Breville coffee machines and got a trip to Jamaica sponsored by the Jamaican government. He said it was a great writing holiday.
This is how far this blogging thing can go. Just imagine the commissions he gets from writing on coffee and coffee machines? Good luck David.
