Get a Fitbit for blogging endurance

So this may sound strange but I really do think there is something to it.

Long before I joined WA, I have always been a fitness buff. I have a Fitbit watch to track how many steps I take every day and for exercise, fitness, sleep and more tracking. At some point you will probably see me creating a niche on it as I thoroughly believe in it.

A benefit that I have not really considered prior to WA is that it can also help me take a scheduled “break” once every hour as well. I set my Fitbit to remind me to get the American Heart Association recommended 250 steps every hour. So at 10 minutes prior to every hour, it lightly vibrates my wrist to remind me of how many steps I need to make yet that hour.

I don’t always do it, but for the most part while I am blogging it reminds me to get up and take a short five minute walk to meet my 250 steps per hour minimum. Not only is it good for your heart, it also helps to stretch your muscles and gives you a bit of needed energy and reduces eye strain too.

Hmm, I’m thinking I need to write this in an article on my fitness tracking nice. But for now, I hope it helps someone else on here as well. :-)

I need to do this with my Fitbit. It's funny because my husband and I were talking about this just last night.

You can actually modify your settings so instead of the default 10 hours a day of 250 or more steps, I set mine to 12 hours of the day. It’s not always achievable, but I try my best to get close.

Especially now that I am in my mid 50’s getting up and moving every hour is important. ;-)

I'm actually pretty good at it on my own, but if I am really interested in the topic I am researching or writing about, I tend to loose track of time because I block out everything else. I am hoping a gentle vibration on the wrist will help.

Actually, to be honest I do the same thing and sometimes miss the gentle reminder. Trust me, I’m not entirely good about it, but even half of the hours is better than none. Sometimes walking away from it gives me a whole new perspective as I walk and I’m excited to get back to it with my new idea!

That's a good time to compare your research to the finished piece t

Yeah, we are considering a WA ankle bracelet that shocks people every hour so they write content and work on their business. lol

There is definitely a power in reminder, in particular if the reminder is related to health or personal growth. Thanks for sharing your story David.

Yikes! Please stop short of shock collars if we are more than 50 feet from our computers!

I wish I can manage my steps the same way...
Excellent approach.

Intresting way of thinking.

I have a Fitbit and have not used it for a while. After reading you post,it sounds like a good plan.

Yes. Very important. Sitting all day is a serious health hazard.
My main job is in software development so sitting can be troublesome.
I try standing sometimes at the computer and I also do lots of squats and minor exercises in between.

I also purposefully don't have a phone upstairs so whenever it rings, I have to run downstairs to answer (that's fairly often).

Hope we all take your advice and follow suit.

David
