Xmlrpc.php file? Why can't I use iPad blogging apps?

I have downloaded Wordpress for iOS and another app called Blogpad Pro but neither can access my site and as I have limited editing capabilities on the iPad this is proving a little annoying. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? There seems to be an issue with the xmlrpc.php file, where is this, what is this, and how can edit or amend this? I've read somewhere that you shouldn't edit it and that hosts can sometimes restrict access to it, is that the problem here, is it because I'm on WA servers? Any enlightenment would be most appreciated, thank you fellow WA ers.

Is there any updates? How can I use the iOS Wordpress app to update my website?

The xmlprc.php file is one of the most hacked and attacked files in the world and unfortunately WordPress uses it to deliver their API for Applications for platforms like iOS and Android. We have this file protected at the moment to protect your website, and others on the network.

We have some security measures that we are working on that will allow this file to be used on your iPad and other blogging software. Currently applications that make use of this file will not work but we're nearly ready to release an update to our network that will allow this.

At this very moment we're testing this new security measure.

Hold tight and we'll hopefully have something in place in the coming week that will allow your iOS app to work with your website.

Thanks Carson for a quick response I was installing plugins and reading help files to no avail. That explains why nothing was working, I just got a new iPad and thought it would be the perfect blogging companion as you could write a post in situ at the moment of inspiration instead of when in front of computer. I really hope you guys get this sorted as I think it is potentially a greater way to communicate and firer yourself from the restrictions of being at home or in the office without lugging a laptop around.

That's free instead of firer oops.

Hi Carson -

I just wanted to check, this is still in the works and NOT AVAILABLE yet, correct?

I was trying to push a post from Word 2010 and I can't get logged in.

Thanks,

James.

Hey James,

Microsoft Word 2010? There is no way to post from MS word to your WordPress website. Copy and paste the content James, that's all you can do with Microsoft. You ABSOLUTELY should not be using MS word to write in though. When you copy from MS Word to your website along with it comes all kinds of formatting problems. I suggest writing your posts directly within your wordpress website. As you write your posts they will auto-save for you so there is little way that you can lose your work when working directly from your website. You can save drafts too.

Cheers,

Carson

Hi Carson -

Thank you for following up.

Yes, I meant MS Word. Their documentation says it can be done. I know the cut/paste thing causes formatting problems, but I wanted to try to see how pushing a post would turn out.

=> The real reason is I was looking for a more robust "distraction free" way to write.

Here is the documentation from MS:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/help-with-blogging-in-word-HA010164021.aspx

Under the Wordpress section, they mention the file mentioned in this post, which is how I found it.
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/help-with-blogging-in-word-HA010164021.aspx#_Toc321212400

I'll definitely take your reply as the final answer and just use the distraction free mode within Wordpress. No need to reply again unless you think it would be beneficial for the community.

Thanks for your time!

- James.

Hey James,

Thanks for the explanation - I'd suggest keeping things simple and bypassing anything "microsoft" altogether. The only technology that you need is your website that is available to you from any computer with an Internet connection. Trying to hook up MS word to your WordPress blog just adds a layer of technology that isn't necessary.

Anyway, great discussion here, I think we've come to a conclusion :)

Is this disabled again? I used to be able to connect the WordPress for Android app to my blog but now I can't.

Hi Carson,
I am experiencing this same core issue in 2018 with XML-RPC appearing to be blocked/disabled for IFTTT. Any word on when we will have the ability to use this feature?
