I want to create a Home page that I can branch off of. Do I start it as a page or a post then made it a static page? Or does it matter how it is created as long as it becomes

have you checked out the help page on astras site- they have video tutorials on setting this up Darleen.
when you say you want to branch off of -what are you trying to do?

I mean I will list on my landing page the categories of products I will review. There will be links to the menu items and the actual different products will be in sub menus. An example would be Supplements> Vitamins> Individual vitamins etc. I will check the help page thanks.

This may help

Thanks this is very helpful.

My suggestion is to make it a page because you wouldn't want to allow comments on your home page. If you make it a post, it will appear in your blog roll, which wouldn't make sense to your visitors.

Hum, thanks for that.

Hey DA,

I had a similar issue... once that Block Editor appears in the Edit window, it seems the Classic Editor plugin option has to be selected EACH and EVERY time.

However, I have not had any issues with my images, so am not sure it is the fault of WP v5.

Contacting SiteSupport would be the best advice any of us can give you, as they will be able to get at the source of your issue. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/support

Hope you find this helpful.

Thanks for the info.

Use a Classic block instead of the Image block. Click on the plus (+) sign top left and use the Search box.

Will try!

I have the Astra Theme but not sure if it is what I need. Finding the Header a bit of a problem as it is so large. The pro version offere a bit more options but this business

i have used astra and found it very customisable - the other one to look at is generatepress- very small compact and customisable.
what i have started doing is using elementor for the ultimate in getting what you really want - a pagebuilder you can use for free until you find that the paid version has the bits you want!!
this way you can have the header the size you want - with what you want - more of a learning curve but with the way it is going with the custom posts you can write in a standard wp editor in the backend while the custom post formats your post how you want it.
the other thing to look at is what the competition are doing- especially the successful ones - do they have a clean minimalist theme or one so busy that you don't know where to click.
it is difficult to make a decision and setting up test site to play with themes is a good idea - you can find plenty of lorep ipsum generators to create dumy posts rather that producing ones yourself.
and with elementor you can export the templates to use in another site.
good luck with your selection.
phil

Thanks for this information, this will help a lot. I am getting so bogged down in this I need to just move forward and trust my first instinct which was the Astra theme. I do want to go to the pro version, however. Would I still need the elementor if I got the pro version?

if you start uing elementor then you do not need to go pro with astra.
elementor allows you t obuild your own theme as you want it .
so i you want a thinner header you control how large it is
the program has changed over the short time i have been using it.
now you can create your own templates for your site and write standard information in the back end and elementor will take care of the display of the information.
at the moment i would hold off purchasing anything until gutenberg mature a little, as i am sure it wil lhave growing pains with such a change.
put astra on a test site, and install elementor .
see what you can create with this page builder.
the last home page i built was filsphilosophies.stan-tech.com
all done with elementor on top of a theme, but you don't see much of the original theme- but i see it is generatepress.
i need to go on to create the post templates, but am getting there slowly.

Thanks for this, makes a lot of sense. I started this venture with little computer skills other than how to use certain programs where I worked. I get bogged down with the technical stuff and this was helpful.

I have a real problem here. I created a pretty link to go to one of the WA promo sites. I copy the pretty link and put it in the add a link space within the post. I update it

If you click a link and it stays where it is means the link is not hyperlinked properly. Hover to the link on your site and you can see the url at the bottom of your screen. See if that url is correct.

I did this and the URL is correct. I am at a lose!

It's possible you're on a cached version of your site. Tr clicking the link from an incognito session and see if it works properly.

Not being a computer wiz I do not understand what you mean by incognito session. I did pull the site up in other search engines and the link worked. I cleared my browser. I think it somehow has something to do with Google Chrome but I do not know this stuff and what to do about it. I have been trying to figure this out for hours.

I figured out how to search incognito, but does that actually mean. If visitors can't use the links in a normal google search through chrome. They are not going to search just my site incognito. I am not understanding why this is happening. do you have any advice?

oh, my an error I meant to say what does that mean about incognito, sorry.

An incognito session means that Google doesn't know 'who' you are, so it searches just like it would anyone else on the net. Otherwise, Google knows you're the site author, and its results change because of that. This is why we always recommend viewing your site when using Chrome as incognito (the word means disguised) so that you get the same results the public would.

Does anyone know how to resize an image in Site Content? I am not asking how to crop, I get that. Some of the images are coming over to large and I want to shrink them.

I believe that you can click on one of the corners and drag inwards to the size you want, or you can save it to your hard drive and then do the changes there. Hope this helps.

Hi,
Howard's answer sounds about right.

Just click on the image and look for the box in the lower right. Left click on that, hold and drag to resize.

I think I had a day of overload. I have done this before and forgot thanks.
