Verifying My AdSense Account

Moving right along in trainning when on level 7 it requires me to get an AdSense account. When trying to verify my number (which I've already verified in Gmail) it says invalid number. On the help column it says if I've already verified my number with Google I should be able to bypass this process, but I saw no option to do so.. Is there anyway to get around this? What am I missing??

I also have no idea. I was turned down by AdSense. I didn't really want to use them anyway, but I have no idea why they would turn me down.
