Website building training
OK, it's 4.30 am here in Melbourne Australia, and I've got old man's syndrome, in other words I can't sleep! I've been tossing over in my mind this building websites stuff because it's pretty important training.
Last night I began my "About me" page on my website, and watched Kyle's video about how to add some comments in this section. It's a longish video, about 21 minutes, and there's a heap of information to take in.
Anyway, I noticed that on Kyle's example, when it came to writing his comments and adding them, his button said "up date". Well went away and spent some time composing my introduction, and when I came to the update button, mine said "publish"
A little confused, I re-watched the video again just to make sure I had it right, then went back to my page. That "publish" button was staring at me and I felt like a nervous president who's finger is hovering over the nuclear missile button!
Anyway, I hit the button and waited for the explosion, but thankfully, and much to my relief, no bells and whistles, warning alarms or red strobe lights began flashing!
However, when I went to visit my website, nothing appeared in my "about me" area. Alarmed, I went back into my pages area where I had spent the best part of an hour writing my intro, and to my relief, it was still there. I just couldn't figure out why I wasn't showing up on my web page.
Well it was pretty late by then so I packed it in and called it a night. So here I am, it's 4.30 and my mind has been churning over this since I woke up staring at the ceiling. So, seeing as anymore sleep was impossible, I decided to get up and write this.
I have since looked at my website, refreshed it again, and lo and behold, miracle of miracles, there was my introduction, right in the "About me" area!
Now, I'm not real sure why it is there now and not last night, but it got me to thinking. Here at WA there is so much to learn. Kyle and Carson have put together an amazing amount of information, and for newbies to this industry it is quite daunting. My email gets larger and larger each day with new training information, and I wonder just how I'm going to fit it all in!
My one suggestion to improve the video training aspect here at WA would be this. If it was a step you through video where at certain points it was stopped so that members could go to the relevant part of their live training and complete the task and then reenter the video training for the next step, I think this would help the process of setting up, and probably avoid a bit of confusion.
I find myself having to go back to the video, find the relevant point in the lesson, rewatch it and then pause it whilst I access my website.
Anyway, that's my two cents worth on the subject. Other than that, I have really enjoyed the WA experience so far. There are many wonderful, motivated and helpful people here to assist and encourage you along the journey.
I'm going to stop now. I just yawned big enough to be mistaken for the Grand Canyon, so I'm going take a shower and get some breaky and see what bad things have happened in the world whilst I've been asleep.
All the best to everyone, have a great day and I hope you realize your dreams here at WA! Good luck!
P.S. I'm also new at this blogging thingy-a- me-gig, and even facebook for that matter, so adding tags and success post are double dutch to me! Why do I have to add tags?
