G'day, my name is Darren.
I live "down under" in Melbourne, Australia with my better half and my two dogs, a big sooky la-la German Shepherd named Bear, and a bossy Beagle named Ruby.
I am looking to escape the BS of corporate business, and to learn new and interesting skills that hopefully will change my life for the better. I hope I can do it here, and look forward to the new adventure with you all.
On a personal note, the picture on my profile is of two SE5a fighter aircraft from WW1. I am a huge WW1 aviation history buff, and an aviation nut in general.
I am actually building a 2 seat all wood sports plane in my garage at home. My goal is to fly it to Uluru (Ayres Rock) and camp at the great rock!

G'day Gwynn! The plane is coming along very slowly unfortunately. I need some parts welded, but unfortunately in this country, as in yours, every one is wary of the litigious nature of society, so many are reluctant to do this work, even though it's not structural in nature. Very frustrating! I may have to drive 2 hours out into the bush, where country people don't seem to be as concerned with legal matters as our city cousins! I will put some posts up on my site shortly with some more pics.

hey Darren great to have mate from across the ditch here what a goal to have fly to that rock in the middle of nowhere I visited Ayres Rock abut 10 years ago spent the night under the stars before walking to the top WOW amazing views..So Damn hot though .....Awesome to have you here love the planes too.

G'day Michael! Well you have one up on me mate! I've never visited the rock, but one day hope to take my plane there. I've been to Auckland once though. Nice place. My other half wants to go back there next year to watch Melbourne Storm take on the NZ Warriors, so may catch you "over the dutch!"

No worries, we'll keep in touch! Not a big fan of shrimps, but a good steak sounds great! You guys have got a good one in Hoffy for next year! Sorry to see him go, but he's getting closer to the end than the beginning, and Storm have a few good young kids coming through.

Yes, it doesn't surprise me about your Granddad. The thousand yard stare is quite common among veterans, and is a sure sign of what the WW1 vets would have termed "shell shock." or we call Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Many never did get over the effects of their experiences.

DO IT! It's an amazing journey of self belief and character building. Not many people get to experience the satisfaction and pride at having navigated an aircraft safely through the skies and back down to earth again! Plus the view is amazing!

One question though. I want to take advantage of premium membership $19 for the next month as I know I'm going to need more than 2 websites and there is so much more to learn here, but before I commit, I just wanted to know how, if I ever needed to, do I cancel the membership? It isn't explained too well.
By the way, I have no intention of doing so, as I think what you offer here is fantastic, but I just want to have all my bases covered is all.

Yes, you are in full control over your membership Darren. No contracts, you can cancel it at any time you like within your Account Settings. I can give you a hand doing this if you are every in a position where you need to do this, full transparency here. ;)

I recently saw a documentary about Hitler and it described his role in WW I, also the role of Mussolini. Interesting how their involvement pushed them to be who they turned out to be. I had not known before then that Hitler had been in the sights of an English soldier but the soldier did not shoot him.

Yes, we have had that doco series her in Aus recently. Hitler did leave a charmed life in many ways to his ascendancy to Chancellor of the Reich. He survived many close calls in the trenches of WW1, and even assassination attempts during WW2. There was actually a prophecy that the 3 Reich would reign for 1,00 years but Hitler destroyed that with "the night of the long knifes" where upon the prophecy said it would rule for 12, which is exactly what happened!
