How to Write a Good Article
The one characteristic that is necessary for human survival as a species is the ability to convey our thoughts, ideas, and desires to one another. The vehicle for transferring our thoughts varies from one person to the next and from one situation to the next. Of the various methods used to transfer our thoughts, many will agree that the written word is the medium used quite frequently. So, beyond laughing, jumping, pointing and yelling, please allow the following written words to share the thoughts of communicating: How to Write a Good Article
Helpful Hint: Consider studies in another language
A high school English education is helpful so as to avoid stumbling over words like: "their", "there", "they’re", "to", "too", and "two". Other facets of a good article require polishing and refinement, as an example: Use the skills of imagination to select words that convey pictures in the minds of the audience and so keeps them captivated. A letter written to a friend or loved one may have a softer, kinder selection of words as opposed to a letter written to the IRS.
Helpful Hint: Keep a Thesaurus open when composing
Consider for a moment, there will be readers that are indifferent to the articles content. The next question becomes, what kind of an audience is that? Anyway, to be realistic, some articles will end up in the waste paper basket and some will light up a face. To master the writing talent, each article must be nurtured and cultivated to connect with the thoughts of the target audience.
Helpful Hint: Study punctuation rules
Looking deep into any forest or jungle, there will be creatures surviving very well with what nature has given them. However; fast runners, fur, feathers, fangs, and flight are not included in the characteristics found in homo-sapiens. The intelligent brain of man-kind is the primary means to survive in this world and any man will admit he is useless without his tools. So, to compose a well-written article, seek a variety of tools that may vary from a simple pencil and paper to all the power of a computer and anything in between. Word processors will guide you with spelling and grammatical issues. My favorite tools are the Dictionary and especially the Thesaurus.
Helpful Hint: Learn to touch-type
Any man or woman that uses their writing skills for work has a motivation factor that differs greatly as compared to the high school student who merely writes for a grade. Perhaps the motivation is the sheer joy of stringing words together just to know they sing to others. Search for what motivates, and use that to influence the next masterpiece. Example motivational content: Thought provoking, humor, personal gain, and so on.
Helpful Hint: Get feedback from others
Should the article’s topic require additional knowledge and further research, use the tools available, such as the library and Internet. As each fact is discovered, jot them into bullets and arrange them so the big picture is more visible. Irrelevant bullets can always be deleted. The objective is to make the bulleted thoughts segue smoothly. Then go on to expand on each bullet point as necessary to touch the minds of the target audience. Proofread the article to help reveal unintentional confusion and grammatical slips. Even putting the article aside for a time and reading it again later will help check for clarity and proper thoughts intended for the audience.
