My Post Disappeared Off of Page 1 of Google. But I Got it Back!
Merry Christmas! I have a gift for you.
Where did the gift come from? It came from a place called “Significant Disappointment.”
Here’s the story…
For a few days, one of my posts was #4 on the first page of Google, for the keywords in my title. That was only the second time I had a post rank in the top 4, so it was exciting.
But then one day, I looked for it, and it was gone! I went through 17 pages on Google, and didn’t see it anywhere!
How could it have dropped that far?
I checked Google to see what posts on my site were indexed.
Guess what? That post wasn’t even indexed anymore! It had gone from ranking #4 to not even being indexed!
The two questions to be asked then were “Why?” and “How can I fix this?”
I don’t know exactly why it happened. I remembered that on one of my posts (not the one that had been #4), I had recently posted a reply to a comment, and had included two links in that reply. So just in case Google didn’t like that, I deleted the links. But I still don’t know if that was the “why.”
I had an idea I might find out something through Google Search Console. Although that didn’t end up helping me with the “Why,” it did help in fixing the situation and getting back on the first page of Google.
The post got indexed again, and went back to #4 on page 1 of Google!
So here’s my gift to you — a way that you can get your posts indexed (or re-indexed if necessary) quickly!
