Fear, self doubt and starting over

I started my first website with a niche that I was passionate about but had little knowledge about. While I was setting up my site I had a thought running through my mind, "who's going to come to my site? I'm not a doctor, I'm not an expert." Fear and self doubt talking. And I set up my site based on that fear and self doubt. After I started writing and adding content I realized that because of the way I set up my site It was a little difficult to place ads and links. I had not set up my site to be "ad friendly". When I say difficult I don't mean that putting ads in is hard. They are really easy to put on your site. I mean that they are hard to blend in so it looks like they are part of the site, something that looks like it is there by design, not just randomly thrown about.

Now a month into it I am getting more confident with my subject. I am still not an "expert" but at least I can converse intelligently on the subject. I started to take a look at my site and others and to see what changes I can make to have a more "ad friendly" site. Because of the theme and format that I used It would be easier to start my site over and build it from the ground up.

So now I am wondering. Do I start over or leave this site up and running, use it as a learning tool and start a new site with a new niche? I am leaning toward leaving it up and running. I can make small changes and build it up. It may not be what I had originally wanted but I think I can make it a good site. The first thing I need to do is tailor my ads better. maybe if my ads are a little more specific to my niche it will start to feel more cohesive and less like the ads are just randomly stuck in there.(which they are)

See all I needed to do was write my thoughts down and see for myself what I am thinking. (wow it really does work)

I was just discussing this subject with one of the WA affiliates. I guess he endures the same horribly painful gout attacks. Mine gets such that I sometimes have to crawl on all fours to reliee, lol. But you are right. Those medications and natural remedies I also take. And celery too.
BTW I forgot the name of the guy who was looking for this blog. I know he is a retired vietnam vet from Pennsylvania. Anyway thanks for your wholesome take on gout. Keep the good work! Cheers!

Thanks. I will see if I can find him. Celery has some good things in it. I try to add it to my diet also.

I decided to change the theme and I think it look a lot better. not as sterile. I think I can work with this. The new theme has some issues but I think I can work them out.. Thanks for all your comments. They have been really helpful. If you get a minute please check out the new theme and let me know what you think.

No problem good luck buddy!

It seems you answered your own questions. I would leave the one up and start a new one and use the other one as a template for the next one that way you can change what you want and also design a more completed website that you like without losing your first thoughts, if that makes sense. Good luck and God Bless

Just allow your site to grow and change organically. It doesn't have to be what you originally meant for it to be. As you learn and make changes, it will become better than you had hoped!

I think we all have the same thoughts. Check out jvranjes - his blogs and content are very worth while and helpful. He responds quickly as well. Good luck!

That is one of my biggest fears. I am changing my site constantly because it is not exactly what I want. And a year in I do not want to redo it.First, I would advise you to make a back up.That way if you want to come back you will not loose anything.

Second, I have noticed while changing so much, it pretty well keeps all my stuff. I have to change a few things but not my written work.

Third, if nothing else copy and paste your posts to a text editor like notepad and that way you do not got to rewrite them.

Fourth, for me, I am realizing that maybe it is me not the style on some things. I am learning new things to do each day with a style. Maybe that is all you need. Go to the programmers web page and ask questions about how to do what you want to do. They probably can help you easily.
Fifth, Don't everyone talk to themself ?;]] I certainly do. Yes writing it down is awesome, til ya lose the paper. Soo.,I hope this helped if nothing else to let ya know that your not alone in this. ;]]

It is good to talk with yourself, of course not in public places. I read what it increases brain activity in the same way as playing piano or typing on computer board.

it does help to get thoughts on paper so you can see and work through them.

Psychology 101 :)
