My story - How I ended up at WA - Quick Version

So I have been with WA Premium for about a month and figured it would be a good time to "I don't know" maybe add something to my profile.
So here it goes...
I guess I will say a little about myself to get things rolling.
My name is Damon (Every time I start off a post saying my name, it always makes me think I am speaking at an AA meeting or something) I have been a "using" Wealthy Affiliate for about a month, lol! Funny but not funny I guess...
Anyway moving on...
Years Ago....
I guess I should start by telling you how I got here and why I stuck around,
In my earlier years, I was a Press operator. I ran a big Heidelberg/Harris web printing press. At the company I worked at, we made the paper inserts that would come with your Music Compact Disks. But since the late 1990's, early 2000's when folks stopped buying music and started downloading it instead, that job kind of went out the window. I had worked in printing since right out of high school at the age of 18 and stuck with it for almost 16 years.
After I had been laid off from my printing job in 2008-2009(ish) I jumped at the opportunity to return to school and to do something with Computers. Having children at a young age really hampered any opportunity I previously had getting a higher education. Kid's wanted to eat and stuff :)
Out with the old In with the new.......
So I went back to school for Server Administration, and to my surprise I did really well and made good grades while in school. Even though I had made good grades, felt I grasped what I was learning for the most part, there was just still something that didn't feel right. I guess the lack of hands on training, was the real issue. We did have some hands on training, but I never felt we had enough to enable me to gain access to a job in this field.

So finally I start looking for a job in my field that I just spent an arm and a leg training for and guess what? I then learn that NO company is going to allow someone without any experience to touch their Servers. Great, just great!
So eventually I do find a computer related job, I end up working for a deployment firm and we are going around to the major hospital in my town and getting them ready for a new electronic medical records system called "Epic". I work doing this for a few years, and I end up getting picked up as a contractor at the hospital working their Epic help desk calls. Not a bad gig at all really.
Then December 2014 I learn that the contracting position I had been filling is of course going to be filled by another company at a lesser rate and that my services will no longer be needed. Not that I didn't expect this to happen anyway, guess I just got comfortable. I tend to do that "Get comfortable" with employment.
Another new chapter.......Starting over yet again......
Which Brings me to my affiliate career!
I started off with a couple other programs before finding WA, they had been okay programs nothing I had to pay for and I learned some thing from them for sure.
After going through some of the training from these other programs, I finally saved enough money after making sure my bills had been paid to get some hosting and my first domain name. I was finally able to jump in!
So I started my very first website, you know it's funny too because I remember one thing specifically from those first few days that still makes me laugh today. One day I was trying to change my header menu around on my website and could not figure it out for the life of me, I searched Google high and low and never could find the answer I needed, maybe I just wasn't typing the correct words or searching for the correct terms to find my answer. I don't really remember, but anyway it took me 3 days to finally figure out the header menu's. After rearranging everything on my website from top to bottom attempting to fix it. The funny part of the story is that now I can create an entire website in more or less 5 minutes. Just funny how far you can come in a short period of time. and how long simple problems can sometimes take. Kinda Silly, but anyway....
This brings me to when I found WA, after not having any real guidance with some of those other programs for those "getting stuck at this or that point moments" I started searching the web for another program that could help, hoping something was available I had not seen yet. When I stumbled onto a site promoting WA, check out the free starter membership and found exactly what i had been looking for.
WA provides step by step instructions, something I sometimes need, something everyone sometimes needs. This was not my favorite part though, my favorite part and what had me paying them for Premium was the fact that the community could help me when I got to a sticking point. Now I can normally work my way out of most problems, although it may take some time (sometimes 3 day's) lol. But, what do I do when I can't work myself out of a problem? Then I would be back in the same boat as I was with the other programs I tried, right?
I am the kind of person that does not ask for help unless I just can't figure it out myself. Here at WA i think i have asked a total of 3 questions, and you know what? All of them have been answered within a few hours if not minutes. I have not had one question go unanswered, now that is some good service, even if it is coming from the community here at WA.
The community here at WA is simply unmatched!
My Ultimate Goals.... What I would like to gain from my WA experience......
I have finally decided I don't want to work for someone else again. At least not in the regular sense. I want to run my own business and I am hoping WA is what will help me to make that happen. I don't need to make an outlandish amount of money (of course that would be nice too though.) All I want/need is to supplement a regular job's worth of income, allow me to make what I would make online what I would make at a physical employment location and I would be ecstatic to say the least!
So these are my ultimate goals, I know I kind of get rambling but thanks for reading if you made it this far.
Best Wishes
Your Friend,
~Damon
