What brought you here would not take you there

Marshall Goldsmith penned this title for his famous book, “What got you here, won’t take you there.” For some of you who may not have heard of him, he is a leadership coach to over 100 Ceo’s. He is so good at what he does, that his consulting fee is in the high six figure bracket!

In his book, Marshall Goldsmith discusses how a character trait, which may not necessarily be a vice could be holding you back from reaching where you want to be. The drive to win, that compulsive urge to be ahead could be one reason why you are stuck where you are.

What I intend to do in this post is to put a spin on Mr Goldsmith’s book title by recasting it as :” What brought you to Wealthy Affiliate is not enough to take you to the finish line.”

So what brought you to Wealthy Affiliate, if I may ask?

Did you come here because you are seeking an alternative to the 9-5 routine job where you give so much of your time and get a mere pittance in return?. You decided there has to be a better way!

Were the encounters you had with fake internet gurus who had painted a rosy picture of affiliate marketing as a get rich quick scheme but gave you shiny objects in return for your hard-earned money, the reason you are here?

Was curiosity the prime reason you are here? Hardly. You have heard so much about WA that you just wanted to find out what the fuss is all about. That number is negligible, I have to say.

Different paths but One goal

Even though our paths to this portal may have been different, there is one thread that binds us all together. We are all here to make our dreams come true and realize that financial freedom we have always craved for. We want to live life on our own terms. That is the bottomline. Show me a man or woman who would not like to travel the world with their family if they don’t have to worry about where the money is coming from.

Emotions are not Enough

Most of us are driven to the WA portal by emotions of frustration, anger, anxiety and in some instances an extreme case of hatred. These emotions lack the ability in themselves to take us to the finish line. I don’t know what you define as your finish line, but my finish line is becoming a master online marketer with the ability to build a website in any site of my choice and monetize it. I plan on building two or three of such websites raking in $300,000 to $500,000 a year.

What Kyle and Carson have done

When Kyle and Carson decided to set up Wealthy Affiliate, they wanted to teach non-techies to become online marketers who would be able to start their own online marketing business based on their passion or experience to make their dreams come true. They instituted a process of learning and implementing what you have learned so it can be repeated at will.

When you embarked on the WA journey , you started developing a subset of skills that when combined with your knowledge of internet marketing would take you to the finish line.

The skills that would get you there and Beyond

These skills are not directly taught by Wealthy Affiliate. They are by-products of becoming a successful online marketer. Every successful online marketer has them to varying degrees.

Teachability

Teachability is the ability to learn by instruction. If you don’t have this skill, how would you assimilate information and learn to put it to use in becoming the expert online marketer you set out to become? Once you learn to be teachable, you are able to learn most things and widen your horizon.

The 3 P’s

Then comes the trio of patience, persistence and perseverance without which you can not get to the finish line in anything.

Patience is not a skill most of us have. As human beings, we are most prone to impatience.

We want it now and we can not understand why we should not have it.. But it does not take us long in WA before we realize that reaching our goals will take time and effort.

We come to the realization that we are in for a marathon and not a sprint and that teaches us to be patient.

The awareness that becoming a successful online marketer is a slow, laborious process makes you develop strong work ethics in which persistence and perseverance are key ingredients.

The ability to put your nose to the grindstone and refuse to give up in the face of odds is a winning trait in any enterprise.

Self-motivation

Lastly, the need to self-motivate especially when you are low in spirit or have hit a bump is a coping mechanism that will keep you plugging along even when things are not looking rosy.

Conclusion

What brought you here could be any of these emotions: frustration, anger or even hatred. They lack the breadth to take you to the journey’s end. But when you decide to immerse yourself in the Online training program, you end up with a knowledge of online marketing and develop skills that would take you to the finish line here in Wealthy Affiliate and in other fields of human endeavor.

Fortunately I don't want to quit my job. I love what I do. If I am here, it is to ensure that the children of the families with whom I work can do therapies while paying as little as possible because unfortunately it is very expensive therapy for a child with autism or dyslexia or ...

Great to learn that you love what you are doing. Only very people actually love what they are paid to do. You are one of the fortunate ones!

Yes, I am very lucky and I wish all those who are not fulfilled in their professional life to have the opportunity to change their career thanks to WA.

Hi Dada thank you for sharing your insights, for me the why I came is a distant memory.

It's what we do that makes the difference and the hunger we have to succeed.

If we build on that daily good things happen.

I agree with you 100% self motivation can be the key that unlocks many doors.
