My Choosing Themes

I am not New Kid on the Block, but certainly felt that way yesterday. I have set up themes before and have many past pages wrote in my notebooks. I have these normally setting by my computer as to various steps taken in the past. I set up all these under the Abc's as to one of my notebooks and various other headings for other notebooks. (I highly recommend)

I felt well prepared, went to my note book and looked for themes I had used in the past. I have found it much easier for me to use the same theme format. I have found once you have got settled in and adjusted to all their areas of the theme, it is easier to build another more efficiently. You can set up the look you like in a very short time.

Boy was I in for a shock! The couple of themes I had been using for years, were no longer being supported, nor updated, and the other was now a premium theme which was so costly, I felt at this time was not a good option.

So the hunt was on...Now I am sure, and there is, and are a lot of suggestions and advice given here in WA.

One of the options of being premium member is you have access to over 2000 themes here...like a food buffet line to choose from...so many choices. You have all theses pretty themes waiting for you. Perhaps you could just throw out a dart and start...that might work because you can change the theme any time you choose. The problem that lies with that, is the WordPress format is most likely different from the one just chosen. So you should give your theme some serious thought.

Now most themes come with general aspects, such as headings, widgets, plugins and so forth. The problem is that they really do profess a theme, as rightly named. Some are ONE PAGE, others are designed for particular business segments. I believe you are getting MY Drift. Lot of choices that really do not fit. It is a sorting process.

This all sounds difficult, and when I started it was a long process..a couple of weeks of hard work and I later found out I had chosen one of the hardest themes to understand.

With WA, you make a choice and all the work is done for you regarding getting your theme up..and you then learn the steps to customize, which you will be doing for sometime.

What's great, is that you can change if you do not like the theme you have, but suggest you settle in to one early so you do not have to duplicate your work. Look for a SEO driven, not too many extras( widgets and apps) as it slows down the speed, flows nicely, and room for pages, I want forum capability, quality pictures for my flowers, this just thoughts that are going through my head.

Overview..think about your niche, how you want to your present your message, read the details on theme, preview, take good notes, press save to look at your choices later, and most importantly follow the WA steps to get you up running after you push the theme icon.

Great Success is rewarded by the Small Steps applied.

I love simple. If I want then I can dress it up anyway I like.

Also over time you will see other WP Themes that people are using and you think "hey, I like that one, it could fit". You do some research, and as changing WP themes is so easy, you apply your new theme. You do some additional checks/tests to confirm that all is still good and you then using the new theme.

Leave the old theme in place at least for a few weeks (just not being used at the moment) in case you have to revert back to it.
