Hey , Really sorry I just need some advice as i appear to be stuck at the first hurdle! lol
So im trying to choose a niche but the problem is I dont know where to start. I c

I love your way of thinking. I had this problem but I think you got to just do something either way. Fail forward. After experience, you will know what the right thing to do it. plus... domains are really cheap and you can transfer all posts from one site to another.

Prob not the answer you were looking for but I hope my take gives you another way at looking at things

You can use leandomainsearch dot com, you input a word and it gives you another

And a godaddy valuation tool to find a memorable name.

However nowadays domains are not so affected by SEO vs writing quality rich content with good choice of keywords, latter of which would rank you in the search engines.

I would always go for a dot com domain name vs dot net or dot org as people's perceptions when they start typing they would typically assume it is a dot com. And make sure it is spelled correctly as it cannot be edited once purchased.

I would not include dashes and check if the domain is copyrighted, trademarked and ' or registered to an established business.

Thanks for this much appreciated 😁

I see you have build your website, you may have already decided on a niche?

In the first instance, I'd ask myself

Am I passionate and genuinely interested in my chosen niche, as I I'd be expected to write lots of content, it would motivate me to update blog with succinct original content worthy my visitors week in week out.

Would I be writing about it in a years time or two or more

Who would be my target audience, who would benefit most from what I have to offer.

Really useful info here thank you. I think that im overthinking this to be honest. Im thinking 4 or 5 steps dowb the line and probably over concious about how the domain will fair with the test of time as the site expands. Still not decided though lol

I just send you a detailed PM about niches.

What is it that you are passionate about, talk a lot about that you know something about and could help people with. Building a niche website is all about helping people with your niche niche idea. So the easiest is picking one that you are passionate about, have experience and knowledge with and know problems you can help people with.

As for a domain name it can be anything you wish, but it is helpful if it at least has your niche keyword or idea it in to help people remember it. For example if I am into camping, my domain name could be campingrun.com or campingwithnature.com. .

Good morning Darren,

Thank you for your question and welcome to Wealthy Affiliate.

To be fair, a domain name doesn't really make any difference to how your website performs. However, I do think it's important if your website is about dogs, for example, that people know it's about dogs! And yes, I would choose something like, "dog's world" although it's probably taken! But certainly something similar.

Regarding your niche, don't look at where the money is, go to where your passion lies. It's important to have a passion for your niche otherwise it becomes very difficult to write blog posts for something that you do not have a passion for.

I believe that everyone has a passion for something or a hobby or an interest. In the best possible way, if you haven't, you definitely need to.

I hope this helps.

Roy

Morning Roy, thanks for taking time out to reply, much appreciated my freind :)

The problem is that I dont really have any hobbies as such, i dont have time im a single dad lol

My actual job is 'Substance misuse' so I work with those who have drug and alchol issues so I have a lot of knowledge in that area, and it interests me, but I cant work out how to actually monetize that.

I also have an interest in drones and own a couple of those but having looked at keyword on Jaaxy I suspect thats going to be quite competitive really.

God, its so hard just getting started lol

Good morning Darren,

Thank you for your reply, it's appreciated.

A few thoughts for you, Darren.

Could you have a blog about being a single dad?

I'm guessing drones could be good, although it's not something I actually know about.

As for your substance misuse job, I understand where you're coming from; how do you monetise something like that? It is very surprising how many different affiliate programs are available. It's definitely worth researching.

Maybe you could have a referral website where you send people to various rehab places. I would say it's definitely worth looking at. Maybe some more members will come in on the subject.

I am here to help if I can.
