Don't be a pillock!

First of all, if you don't know what a pillock is, you can learn a lot from James May, from Top Gear UK fame.

What exactly is a pillock? I'm not sure exactly, but James May likes to use the phrase often, as you can see from the video below.

Unfortunately, in my past life at Wealthy Affiliate, I can tell you that I was a pillock.

You see, I was very good at marketing Wealhy Affiliate to an audience that was not so familar with Wealthy Affiliate, and I offered very good advice. So, if I knew something was a scam, or a general ripoff, I would let you know.

But, once someone became a member of Wealthy Affiliate, I wasn't nearly as nice. In fact, I became sort of a pillock.

Looking back to when I first met Travis, of WA fame, he wasn't a pillock. In fact, when the WA forum was still active, Travis made a post, and mentioned that he was there to help, even if it meant giving up his secrets to sucess, even if it meant competition in areas where there wasn't lots of competition.

What followed?

Not a whole lot, except, now, people understood what Bum Marketing was. Travis even had to deal with people who copied his very sucessful website, word for word.

But the good thing is, even when people copy you, Google knows the difference between someone who has a legitimate business, and those who are copy cat frauds. I've personally had to deal with copy cat frauds, who personally have copied my website word for word, but at the end of the day, they got de-indexed.

But getting back to my original post, don't be a freaking pillock. Create your own content. Be an original. If you don/t, the Google police will shut you down. And getting back to the original reason I wrote this post, don't be a pillock, especially as a Wealhy Affiliate member.

Sure, you should protect the secrecy of your websites the best you can. You don't want people copying everything you do.

But, don't be afraid to offer quality advice.

You see, sometimes, people would send me questions via PM, and I would respond by telling them to instead contact Carson or Kyle.

And that is where I was a pillock. In most situations, I could have answered their questions, but instead of trying to help out, I redirected them back to Carson and Kyle.

What a pillock I was!

Sure, I wasn't going to be paid if I answered their questions. But the greatest lesson in life anyone can teach you is that, LIFE ISN'T ABOUT YOU! Its about helping others!

Yes, no one wants copy cats, but you can eaily make a difference in someone else's life by taking a minute to give somoene advice.

Having said all of this, I'm just getting back into the internet marketing game. I'm learning internet marking all over again. I'm stoked to have Kyle as my teacher.

My personal internet marketing knowledge is outdated by about 10 years. But, even so, there are things I can offer to the community, things I can give back for all of the things people gave me, back when the WA forum was still active...back when I was a pillock that was happy to accept feedback, but was somewhat reluctant to give back inside of the WA community.

Now, things have changed. I could tell you about at least one of the "big" names I refererd to WA back in my heyday, who is a huge name in the internet marketing world today.

But right now, I'm here to help. Chances are, since my expertise is about 10 years out of date, I won't have much to offer, and may even have to refer you back to Carson and Kyle, but I will say, that the time has come for me to take my head out of my rear end, and NOT be a pillock, and at least TRY and help others out, when I can.

And I would encourage you to do the same. Its not about you. One day, you might be a millionaire, but just imagine how much better being a millionaire might be, if you took a few minutes out of each day, to help someone else become a millionaire.

In all honesty, my advice totally sucks. But, from here on out, within reason, I'm going to help out as much as I can, if time allows, because you only live once, and you can make so much more of a difference in this world by serving, rather than by being served, So help me God.

Thanks for this great post. I believe God helps those who help themselves and others! Selflessness is a very good quality.

Take care.

As my Dad always said: "God helps those who help themselves, but God help those caught helping themselves"

My idea of humour......

Haha..That's quite funny.

Great post and thanks for sharing!

I suppose many peoples motive behind copying and plagiarism is the belief it will get their site up there quicker and will achieve success faster, almost in the hope of a get rich quick scheme. Which we all know do not exist!

My first niche is an area that I am passionate about and so I feel that the content will continue to flow for the foreseeable future, it is all my own content based on my knowledge and experience with of course research. I actually find it quite relaxing and enjoyable knowing that I am writing about something that others across the globe will read about, and hopefully find useful, that for me is pretty cool!

So in the theme of your post, I try to avoid being a pillock, it is not a good thing to be or be known as :)

Have an awesomely productive day!

Best wishes

Craig

Sometimes revisiting with that different mindset can be the thing that makes all the difference, best wishes as you reconnect with your online adventure, Keith.

This should have been included in my original post - I'm going to repost it now:
