A month and a half in

Okay, so I have now been a premium member of WA for a month and a half. I must admit that it has been somewhat up and down emotionally for me during this time. When I first joined WA everything seemed to happen so easily. And, the training seemed to say that everything else would be easy also. You create great content, and the rest will fall into place quickly. Soon you will be ranking in google on the first page, and traffic will come without much effort.

Since that time, I have learned that nothing with SEO ever comes easily. At least not at first. When your site is only a few weeks old Google is never going to give you rankings over the big dogs who have been on for years. I have no great sites linking to me yet, and Google seems to place a lot of value in that. It seems at times, even above great content. At first this was super discouraging to me. But, a couple days ago I logged into my webmaster tools, just to see how things were going. While I am still getting practically no traffic from google, I did notice that several of my pages are ranking. This is new, and did give me somewhat of the boost I needed to keep going.

I have also done a ton of research. While some blogs take off right away, and are making hundreds of dollars within the first few months, this is extremely rare. And, usually is only accomplished by someone who has done it before and knows what they are doing. For those of us who are just starting, with no experience it can take much much longer. This is normal, and shouldn't be a reason to quit. Most of us are looking for a way to suppliment our income, or eventually support ourselves. I believe few of us come into this thinking that it will happen over night. But for some reason when we start and don't see results super quickly we think about quiting.

I think this is the single most valuable thing I have learned from my research, and from reading through the blogs here on WA. Success can happen, but it will only happen if you stick with it during the months and weeks where things are difficult. That you fight through the discouragment and keep pumping out quality content that will hopefully one day get you some traffic. No, it probably won't be over night. But, If it takes a year or even two before you can go full time and work on the schedule you want, and be your own boss, isn't it worth it. I believe so. That is why I am determined to stick with it and see what happens. I still have a lot to learn, and I still feel that WA is the place where I can find the information and help I need. I hope within the next year I can post my success story and help other people who are in the situation I am in at this point. So for now I will keep researching, keep posting, and try my best to remain positive.
