My opinion...
It will depend on what you are pinning and what you are selling. If you are pinning pictures or videos of yourself and your product, then you might make some progress towards a sale.
If you are simply pinning just to get traffic, they do not know who you are, or what you stand for, and will simply stop, look and MoveOn.
In addition to traffic, it needs to be qualified traffic, and you need to build a trusting relationship, and the product needs to be a perfect fit for the viewer.
Just like opening a combination lock, the numbers have to be precise, and they need to be in the proper sequence.
