Classrooms Oberservations

Classrooms offer a good overview of the workings of WA.

Today I made some observations that lit up my thinking cap.

Some members were asking questions about taking a short break from WA; the reasons may be unavoidable.

As I understand it you have 30 days to remove your website, although I have seen comments to the contrary.

You can return at anytime, but you have to host your domain somewhere else;

I am not sure of the technicalities; but I assume that will incur some cost.

What if you were able to just park your website at WA with no access until you are ready to return; maybe with a maximum period for parking.

During my days as a teacher I divided my class into groups of varying ability , with at least one top student as a mentor for the group.

There are members on the WA platform that definitely need some special help; a level of help that is too special to ask regular members; I even saw a request for a mentor.

How can WA accommodate these members with special needs? It would not be realistic to expect it for free.

By the way I think the ability to buy credits is a great addition to the platform.

I know 1st hand. If you are going to stop paying for your membership, you better move your site first. Then relacate it to a hosting site like ehost, a2hosting and there are many more, however, there's a learning curve. It is easier said than done and that is why I am back.
WA makes building and hosting sites soooooo easy, not so at other places. I made both mistakes and it cost me all my content and a website that was down for 2 months. I actually lost all the content on 3 sites, but I wanted to downsize to 1 website anyway so I didn't care about the other two.

I hope others learn from your experience. Thanks for sharing.

It may be Courtney that they fear parking that too many people who leave (temporarily) which has an uncertain ending may tie up capacity on their servers and degrade service to the existing members

I cannot comment on the technology side of the issue. but I am sure it must be for a good reason.

Thanks for sharing.

you can remain a free member but you can't access the training and as a free member you still get 2 websites not up to 25

I am not sure you can return as a free member a second time. perhaps someone can address the issue.

I think you are on to something here.
At the moment I have no intention of giving up my membership but I know that there might be times in the future where I might have to cancel for financial reasons (although I hope not).....the thoughts of having to move my sites to another hosting platform is a pain and a worry. I think I would be less worried if I know I could just 'Park' my sites here for 6 months or a year. It would also be more of an incentive to come back and rejoin once I felt financially able to do that again. And I think people would be will to pay for just hosting or parking....as long as it was a reasonable price.
Your idea of a mentor program also is a good one! I'm sure there are plenty of people who would be willing to pay extra for that when needed.

A year seems a long time to park; the drawbacks of monthly premiums can be costly; thats why I recommend yearly.
