Using builtin narrator to proofread your posts
Hello friends, I have something special for you today. This little trick will help take your writing to a new level.
Your mind will play tricks on you.
Do you remember when you were in school and the report you wrote sounded great every time you read it? However, the instructor’s pen bled red ink all over your paper. The reason for this is that when you read something many times, your mind will fill in missing pieces and glance right over errors. When you write something and then reread it, your brain will occasionally think it sees what you intended to write and not what was written.
Spell checkers and grammar checkers can betray you.
If it wasn’t bad enough that your mind skips over mistakes, spell checkers and grammar checkers are far from perfect as well. Spell checkers can save the day when you misspell supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, but you are at a loss when you spell desert as dessert. You can then add insult to injury when you want a baseball cap, and the grammar checker sees nothing wrong when you claim to want a baseball cape.
What on earth can save us from ourselves and shortcomings of technology?
The answer is remarkably simple; your ears! When someone reads what you have written back to you your ears will ring out as they reach every gaffe. But we can’t expect someone to sit behind us poised and at the ready to read aloud all that we have written. However, it is here that technology can come to the rescue. Most systems have a feature that will read a selected passage back to you.
***BONUS This little hack can even help with punctuation. While listening, if a section feels drawn out or you would swear the reader would be out of breath; you may need to look at your comma usage.
