Staying on Track - Reevaluating Goals

A couple of weeks ago I was having a hard time. I was feeling down on the whole process of building a website. I got stuck in the checking analytics a million times a day quicksand and it was really bringing me down and pushing me to the point that I was close to quiting.

Now a couple of weeks later I am feeling a lot better about how I am doing. Sure my webpage still isn't getting a ton of views everyday. Hell, somedays I don't even get a single visitor. But what is happening right now is that I am having fun writing content and helping the few people that do stumble onto my site.

One of the things that I definitely had to learn was to put away my ego, and to shift my goals. In the first days that I started this website my main goal was to provide a resource to people within my niche. I knew that this was what I was going to do going into this. Throughout all the training and the comments that I read from others my goal inadvertantly shifted from wanting to provide a resource, to wanting to make money. Once I started allowing this to become work it stopped being fun and I got discouraged.

Now I'm back on track and I'm mainly trying to help others, with the secondary goal of hopefully making a couple of bucks on the side. Hopefully at least enough to supplement what I am spending to keep the website running. Now that I am doing this, content is getting easy to generate again, and I am feeling better about my journey.

I guess the moral of my story is... If you are starting to get discouraged and feel like you aren't succesfull, maybe it is time for you to reevaluate your goals. Check to make sure that you haven't lost your way from when you first started out. Also make sure that the goals that you have are realistic, and if they aren't don't be afraid to adjust them. I think that if you do this you will find that you will have a much better time of things.
