Real Pirates of The Caribean
Jean Lafitte famously plundered Spanish commerce in the Gulf of Mexico in the 1800s.
In the war of 1812 Lafitte was offered a captaincy and $30,000 by the Royal Navy for his allegiance. Lafitte pretended to take the offer but then warned officials of the pending blockade around New Orleans. Lafitte offered his services to Gen. Andrew Jackson for a pardon for himself and his crew, terms were accepted and in December 1814-January 1815 the Battle of New Orleans was fought and the British were defeated.
Later on Lafitte moved his base of operations to what is now known as Galveston Island. Lafitte continued his Piracy in the Gulf of Mexico rading Spanish ships on their trade routes.

Global Pirates
We still deal with Pirates, land sea and air, stealing what they can, some are call street gangs, some cartels and some terrorists.
Some even lurk around the internet pulling people in with deceitful adds and post, promising big money with no work (that sounds like a pirated to me). I'm sad to say I've been pirated.
But here is the good news I've found the treasure I've been looking for, here at WA. Teachers, mentors, encouragement and a wealth of information and a brand new year to work on all of it!
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERONE
