Covert Gawker wordpress theme - What do you think?
1
I've come across this new WordPress theme which promises a lot, but wondering if there are any copyright issues by using it? It's called Covert Gawker, the website is here:http://covertgawkr.com/. It seems fishy to me. What do you guys think?
What it does is aggregate blog posts from various other blogs, so you don't write anything, but can get a niche site ready very quickly.
The guy demoes it here:
I'm interested to know what the more experienced guys here at WA think about this.

Isn't copying/pasting others' content a HUGE NO-NO?
Wouldn't a site full of others' blog posts be a red flag for Google? Why would there even be such a thing as a theme that aggregates plagiarized content?
Am I missing something here?
Thanks for asking the question, Chris.
Thanks for the reply, RoriO. That's what I thought, however I see this theme/plugin advertised all over the Internet, I thought I was missing something.
Hmmmmm, I wish someone would come along and enlighten both of us! LOL
I've just come across this article: https://r-rwebdesign.com/when-does-content-curation-turn-into-plagiarism
Thanks for the article, Chris. From the description of "content curation," it seems like good old thesis or research paper writing. Choose a topic and a thesis, go to the library (other's blog articles), paraphrase while adding a bit of quoted material, and cite the source. So that makes it sound okay to do.
I'm not going to take the time right now to look at the theme you mentioned and figure out exactly what it does, so bear with me if my conclusions are incorrect.
From what I understand so far, the aggregator picks up keywords from other blogs and gives you the citation in the form of a link to the blog of origin. Then I suppose the person making a blog out of others' cited blogs does a little paraphrasing or has a topic they give an opinion on, based on the topic. ??? Nothing inherently wrong with that, but it sure makes writing a thesis or research paper easier.
So the choice becomes, do I want to do my own aggregation or let the website theme we are questioning do the research for us?
By the way, there are many examples of WA members doing this in their blogs here. They title "their" blog by its topic and add a link that brings you to an article that you might have missed while searching Google. Sometimes very helpful. So there's a positive to the idea of content aggregation.
I like to write, so until I have no time to do so I'll leave it on the back burner. Chris, thanks again for bringing up this very intriguing idea, and the article that explains a bit more about how it is done and why it is legal.
