How Scary Is This Virus

I see a lot of people have already blogged about the Corona Virus today.

This virus has well and truly made a huge impact on peoples lives and it is rather scary how quickly it is being spread and the amount of countries that are now in lockdown because of the impact.

I had a conversation tonight with my son about people panic buying and he came out and said that they will be bringing back ration books like they had in the war if things keep going on like they are.

I am just waiting now for the news that the UK are now in lockdown as each day we hear of more and more things happening and events being cancelled. My son is part of a Musical Theatre group who were due to put on an end of year show next month and it has now been cancelled also.

I know there are people out there who believe they are just scaremongering, my husband being one of them but we need to listen to what they are asking us to do and help each other and the family and friends that we love and take action if you are not in agreement with it. It is being done with the best intentions to stop the spread and keep people safe.

Don't grumble when you are told you can't go to the pub or to meet your friends in the restaurant or that your football has been cancelled, even though it is a pain. What is worse, losing a family member or friend to this virus or missing a night at the pub or a Saturday afternoon at the football. I know what I would rather have, that's for sure.

I personally think that the quicker we take heed and listen to what is being told and acting on their advice the more chance they have of slowing down the spread and possibly getting back on an even keel.

Always remember to make sure you are washing your hands or using hand sanitiser if you are not able to use soap and water.

For anyone who doesn't know me by now, I have a warped sense of humour and I found this image the other night. I do not want to take away the severity of this virus and the impact it is having but I thought this was funny.Sorry everyone but this just appealed to my sense of humour.

Enjoy the rest of the week everyone and keep yourself safe.

Goodnight and see you all tomorrow.

Hey Cheryl, good post. Yes I too am in the UK expecting complete lockdown shortly. The numbers are increasing dramatically day by day.

People that keep saying it’s only flu and accusing the media of scare mongering are driving me nuts. The whole world is going through this, thousands are dead and as yet there’s no end in site. We need to do as advised by the experts to get this thing over with.

Stay safe - I didn’t vote for the government but I trust them now.

Hi Alex, sorry for the delay in replying to you. I agree with you totally and like yourself I never voted for this Government. However we really all need to work together on this and they seem to be doing it well so far.

There is some scaremongering but at the same time we need to listen to and do what they are telling us for our own safety and the safety of others too. There will always be some out there that think they are invincible and will never get the virus but will be the first to complain if they do.

If people did what was asked, they would maybe be able to slow it down a lot.

You stay safe too Alex.

No need to apologise, there are no time limits on here or any pressure 😀.

🤞 this lockdown starts to slow things down.

Yes, the brain especially lol. xxx

🤣🤣

Hi Sis. Good to see you. Seems like a long time since I've seen anything you've written. I haven't had much time to be on WA.

I agree with you. Even though it's inconvenient, we need to stay away from people as much as possible because it is impossible to know if they have been exposed, but not yet sick.

I couldn't believe the lines for security at one of the airports I saw on TV. They were squashed against each other, lined up all the way up the escalator. I can't believe that people are still flying or traveling unless it is absolutely necessary.

We are hunkered down at home as much as possible, just going out if we need groceries, etc. We wear masks and gloves when we do have to go out.

I talked to my son last week, and he asked me if I was "buying into that crazy virus hype". I set him straight in no time that he needs to take this situation seriously. I think he probably has found that with businesses such as bars and restaurants closing, this is not just hype, but a life and death scenario.

Hey Big Sis, so nice to see you here. I haven't been around much either. It is very scary and really needs to be taken seriously even though it is a pain in the butt. As I said in my blog I would rather have my family and friends safe and well than going for a night at the pub or football on a Saturday afternoon. I don't agree on all this panic buying though. Are you still in Florida?

So great to see you, Cheryl. Yes, I'm still in FL, and it looks like I will be staying here, even though we both prefer NC. It's too dangerous to travel now, and I wouldn't even consider staying in a motel or eating in a restaurant. We talked about taking an ice chest and things for sandwiches and sleeping in the car, but would still have to be in other people's homes to see the houses. So we're staying put, at least for the time being.

Are they hoarding toilet paper and hand sanitizers in Scotland, too? It is insane.

We are staying home most of the time except when we have to go out for groceries or to take the garbage and trash to the dumpster. We're the only ones around here wearing masks and gloves when we got out, though. Don't know why people aren't taking this as seriously as they ought to. Stupid, I guess!

You and your family stay safe, dear friend.

I agree totally with you Carol and it is a nightmare but we all have to play our part and do what is asked of us. People are just not taking it seriously though and would be the first to complain if they caught it.

You stay safe too. Xxx

You're so right, Cheryl. There was an idiot who knew he was positive for the virus and flew to West Palm Beach FL, then told the crew as he was getting off the plane. The jerk exposed everyone on the plane, the flight crew, and any number of people in FL once he got off the plane. The authorities here told him he had to self quarantine for 14 days, and at first he refused. I think they should have arrested him because I don't know if they had a way to check on him to be sure he did isolate himself.

Nice post, thank you. You are correct, doing what is suggested is the best way to slow down the spread of the virus.
That is the only thing that is going to give our health care systems time to handle the people who will become infected.

Social distancing is the only way to achieve that.

I agree with you, do what is suggested and stay safe.

Thank you and it is fine to be wise after the event but no good to you if you don't have your health or your life. As I told my mum, they are not just giving this advice for the sake of it.

I saw that pilot image a few days ago and couldn't stop laughing. This is our reality right now as everyone becomes so afraid.
What l still don't understand is how people could test positive for virus but have no symptoms.
I do agree that there's an element of scaremongering but we still need to be cautious.
Thanks for the post.

Thanks Kav, I burst out laughing as well when I saw the image. It is scary to know that the person next to you could be carrying the virus and they don't even know. What chance do we have.

You are welcome and glad you enjoyed it. Xxx
