Writer's Block
It's that instant in time between when you are ready to create something amazing and when it comes down to putting it on paper. You have a marvelous idea. You plan it all out in your head. It's going to be amazing. It might even be a NY Times Best Seller. Your creative juices are flowing and your mind is running rampant.
You sit down at the computer, open your word processor, pull up a blank screen and then it happens. Ooooh squirrel! Your mind goes totally blank. What was I going to do? Oh yeah, fix a sandwich. No, that's not it. Call someone? Nope, not that either. Oh yeah, write some content for your website.
But what was it about. You don't recall. It was going to be great though. You do remember that much. It's right there, just at the back of your mind. Why - won't- it-come-out-? AAAARGH!
So you decide to take a walk. That will clear your mind for sure. Forty-five minutes later you're back. You're hot and you're sweaty. Nice refreshing shower will take care of that. Ah! Much better now. Now what were you going to do. Oh yeah, that sandwich. Might as well get a cold beer to go with that. That might just help you relax and get back in the writing mood.
Nope! That just made you want another cold beer and to find something on TV that will probably finish frying what's left of your pea sized brain. Come on, snap out of it. You've got work to do. Get busy. Get off your duff and get to writing.
Writing? What writing? The house needs cleaning, you don't have time for writing now. Two hours later, the house is spic and span and that article that you were going to right is still not any closer to being published. Damn, what was it that you were going write about?
Oh yeah! You had this great idea about how to change the world. It was going to make you richer than your wildest dreams. You had the greatest idea since the automobile. That was it. Quick get to the computer so you don't forget again. There you go, sit down, and start getting it out to the masses. The world depends on it.
Oooh squirrel!
Damnit!

I e heard that a good way to overcome a block is to just write - anything. Even write about not being able to write (hey you did that!!!) ;-). And just keep writing until the juices start to flow...!
Great topic! Sometimes when I get the block, I find it helpful to listen to jazz and doodle. Once I find a smooth jazz station, I grab my pen and paper, writing not about my topic but anything that come to my mind. I do this until all the extra nonsensical pictures, thoughts, and distractions are gone. Usually takes about 20 minutes. For me, this works some of the time. Lol. Other times I just stare at the blank screen until the ideas snap back into place. Your article got me thinking. Thanks because I had writer block before reading it :-)
Exactly what I fell all the time! Most of the time I'm away from my laptop, my mind full with lots of ideas. Got me so excited that I can even develop it from one to another. But whenever I sit in front of my laptop with my fingers ready to play, it got blank. I know I'm gonna write something and yeah.. It still in the back of my mind. It's just so funny that.. I don't how to write it down. In the end I would just browsing and left my paperwork. LOL
Thanks Dauphin. Here's a little trick that I learned. If you have a cell phone, there's an app you can use to record your ideas. Just speak your thoughts into the phone app. Then when you get to the computer, listen to your notes and write them down just as you hear them. Edit it, and post it. 'Bam' a blog post or page content.
Thanks for your advice Charlie! I did it. I even especially bought a voice recorder since most of the time the thought came was when I was on my way somewhere. It quite a help. But what I found a real blocking was because when I want to start writing, I want to make a great one. I want it to be flawless. But in the end I end up with nothing. So now, all I do is just making a draft first. I'll write down everything that cross my mind and do the editing afterward. Great post Charlie! You made a good point here.
Charlie after reading that I find it hard to believe you could suffer from writers block Very ENTERTAINING READ !! THANKS
Thank you, Tim. I really do enjoy writing and it's always better when people enjoy reading it.
Lol, well said, sounds like a few of my days, and yes I said days have even passed by I plan to write but once I do find the time I totally forget about what I was wanting to write about in the first place... I think we all go through writer's block a few times in our journey. But it always comes back to you when you least expect it. :)
Keep on trucking... :)
2 hours to get your house spic and span...man you must have your motor running hot!!
