The Perfectionist Procrastinator
Are you a Perfectionist Procrastinator? You think perfectionism is a good thing. Right? No, it is actually a myth and can be highly elusive resulting in delays.
Perfectionism or “wanting it to be perfect” is a type of procrastination. Unfortunately, most perfectionists wear it as a badge of honor – including “yours truly” several years back before I started learning and teaching productivity in business. Do you
- Waste time on a task at the expense of other important tasks because you are trying to make it perfect.
Spending quality time on minute details simply slow you down and force you to defer other important tasks. This could be the reason why you are behind on your tasks and goals!
- Feel there is no point in starting something until you have sufficient time to make it perfect. Note that using this excuse might mean that you might never get started.
Waiting for all your ducks to line up in a row is simply an excuse that you sell yourself.
Perfectionists always start off with a great goal and a plan of action, but soon get bogged down by too many meaningless details as they strive for the “perfect” product.
Done is always better than Perfect!
Now, having read this, do you think you fall into this group of procrastinators?
