Independence Day
A lot of folks here in the USA our gearing up to celebrate the 4th of July. From trips to the beach, the river or the lake, to good old fashion cook-outs or just having family and friends over to celebrate the holiday, most people here partake in the festivities in one form or another.
American Independence
We celebrate American Independence Day on July 4th yet that was not the day we declared our independence as a Sovreign Republic, It was actually on July 2nd, 1776. On the back of the original document, an unknown penman wrote "Original declaration of Independence/ dated 4th July 1776.
John Dunlap was asked to make about 200 copies to be distributed throughout the colonies and they were known as the "Dunlap Broadsides" and these are extremely valuable and rare. One that was discovered in 1989 sold for 8 million dollars in 2000! Over 86 changes were made to Thomas Jefferson's original draft before it was signed. It is the cornerstone document of the United States and represents the freedoms that we fought for so we could have a better life. The actual war for our independence was not won until 1783.
Lady Liberty
The Statue of Liberty which was a gift from France has been a strong symbol throughout the world for freedom and a better way of life. It is a beacon of hope to many that we do our best to make the world a better place by all we do and say. I am thankful every day for the freedoms I am allowed because of the brave men of a distant past who knew a people could rule themselves and create a better world for all who would believe in it. I hope that everyone out there in my WA family is living a good and free life, doing all they can to bring light and hope to those who do not have them. I know everyone I have met here is doing there best to make our world a better place for everyone, on and offline. Thank you all for being a true beacon of light, showing others a way to enjoy life to it's fullest and be free.
