I have Google Site Kit running on my website and it is giving me a good amount of recommendations. Is everyone else running this and if so, are you following the recommendation
I believe you have two excellent answers to your question below my friend.
Diane and Chrys always give the best advice.
Hi - no, I tried it initially, but have now removed it from all my sites. I can't see the point of adding yet another plugin that slows down your site when all the information it provides is already available through Analytics and Search Console.
I refuse to use SiteKit, it is an unnecessary plugin that you don't need, and slows your website down. Just my personal opinion ;-)

I'm only about a week in. My posts are starting to get indexed by Google and I'm wondering if there is a good way to see how I'm ranking. I'm using Jaxxy with certain keywords
By bring indexed it means Google know that your posts exist. You now to wait for them to rank. That takes patience.
Hi - it's best not to get caught up with wanting to know your rankings at this stage. With a brand new website, it can take up to 6 months to be ranked.
It's not just about keywords, the age of the site and the amount of overall content plays a big part in ranking. Just concentrate on adding more posts, ideally 2 or 3 per week. Realistically, nothing will happen in terms of traffic and rankings until you have at least 25 posts.
