Woke up this morning switched around from night shift hours. The extra sleep was needed and good. No schedule, this is a day off work and the normal tyranny of the clock. Didn’t have a lot of breakfast stuff so decided to drive into the little funky diner in town. They serve real food, nostalgia (art from old movies and music) and informality.

Noticing the sun filtering through the leaves all the way in. They mostly haven’t turned colour yet but the brisk air teases about autumn. The music in the diner was comfy oldies or remakes of them. The half order of veggie hash was a mountain on the plate.

I felt good. I also felt somewhat smug as I think I’ve found a couple (healthy) magic bullets to deal with my regular inflammatory pain. It was mostly gone. And with no schedule, I was able to let thoughts meander, note metaphors of life and be the contemplative person I am when survival stuff is out of the way. (It doesn’t sound like it but I am grateful for the job. It is paid work and a place where I can function, a refuge when mobility issues cut short my security work).

I finished the mountain on my plate and headed to the grocery store for supper food for the next two days. I knew before I got there that the parking spot next to the carts would be open for me. It was. Didn’t know about the chunk of salmon that could be cut into two meals but there it was. When everything falls into place like this I call it “being in the Flow”. I am far from it when checking the clock to meet a schedule.

But when my site is up and working, my days can be contemplative and Flowing like this. That can fuel the writing, just as it is doing now. And, just as importantly, this Flowing mood can attract that Flowing lifestyle. I’ve read briefly about the “law of attraction” and “The Secret”. But I also lived it, totally unintentionally.

I was grieving the breakup of a relationship. The only thing that gave relief was thinking about how I would feel when I got my first trailer and began living in it. I played my music and danced every night while thinking about how it would feel to be in my own place. (That’s not easy to do without an image of the trailer and I didn’t have one -- I was open to whatever came along). And it happened. I called an ad about a trailer and checked it out. And when I asked, they were willing to rent to own. Soon after, I was living in my own trailer.

The trick then was to deliberately feel the feelings of living in the trailer. The trick now is to feel the feelings of being unscheduled and contemplative -- in the Flow -- as if I am now working at home. I couldn’t invoke those feelings while working on a schedule but today’s gift was to feel/remember them that so I can deliberately repeat them.

Flow -- here I come!
