Where Can I Find More Hours?

Time - Hours - Minutes - Seconds. Where do all the hours disappear?

With a full-time job, and extra shifts, in an emergency room with a pandemic ravaging the world, it's far too few hours in a day.

Where can I find more hours? I know it's no use sitting up half the night - It affects my job ... I know I have to be in nature every day - otherwise I'm going crazy .... So where do I find the time to write my articles?

I'm sure this is a familiar dilemma for many of the members here at WA. I know I have to be patient and use the time I have available, but some days I'm completely exhausted after hectic hours at work, and I end up on the couch in a zombie-like state.

If only this pandemic could end, so that the days would be normal again.

Although I am not able to manage 3 articles every week (which is my goal), I will be happy if I manage 2 in this hectic period.

This has been a big frustration for a long time now, but I have learned a few things;

  • Enjoy every minute of every day I get to be healthy.
  • Use the time I have available well and productively.
  • Don't get stressed up - Things fall into place eventually.

In the meantime, I always carry my notebook with me and write down new ideas I gather material for my upcoming articles. It is an incredibly good tool (and for me absolutely necessary). It makes writing easier for me.

So my tip today is: Take notes, and never, never give up ;-)

Have a great evening.

Take care and stay safe.

Cathy

Hi Cathy
My wife is a nurse running a care home at which I help out.
This means I have a 24-hour commitment... On-watch from about 07:30 to 21;00 or so, then on call the rest of the time.

To the subject ... various people have written posts about getting up early to write.
I used to write between about 21;00 and 00;00. I am now experimenting by going to bed at 22:00 and getting up at 05:00. I am finding that the extra energy I have first thing makes a positive difference to my writing.

Of course, I am not working shifts which might be harder to manage.
:-)

Hi Richard

That's so impressive. You really make a difference. Thank you for that. And thank you for the great advice.

I'm putting in some time here and there, whenever I can find the time and energy.
It will get better. We just have to be patient.

Take care, and stay safe.

Cathy

Thank you for your kind words Cathy.

In reality it’s my wife and professional care staff who make the real difference. During the day I help by calling for assistance when I spot a need. This means I have time during the day to think and prepare on iPhone ready for when I get to PC.

I use free software called ‘notion.os’ on phone and pc for all writing (and much more). Both versions automatically update to the latest data when online. So whatever I prepare on the phone is more or less instantly available on the pc and vice versa. That saves a lot of messing about too. Notion is also available on macos and android.

Richard

That's great, Richard.

You're both doing a lot for people in need :-)

I'll keep writing in my notebook for now, and I'll check out
'notion. os' eventually. It really sounds great.

I wish you a great day.
In Norway it's bedtime. Just finished my shift :-)

Take care.

Cathy

Hi Cathy ... I spent a few weeks (playing music) in the south of Norway in the mid 70s. Loved it.

I wrote a post introducing Notion some weeks ago:
:-)
Richard

That's so cool, Richard :-) Do you remember what city you played in?

Thank you for sharing the post. I'll look into it today :-)

Take care.

Hi Cathy
1973 - Oslo, Bergen and various places in between.

In Bergen, we (myself and a guitarist) spent an afternoon with Sigbjörn Ossa (a famous hardangar fiddle player) sharing tunes (I play violin). He invited us to play at a banquet in his honour that very night. We had another booking but were able to go to the banquet first. So I asked how we should be dressed, he said (through a translator) “as you like”. So we turned up in jeans and t-shirts.

You can imagine our surprise when we arrived to discover that King Olav V was there to present a medal to Sigbjörn. There were a few hundred dignitaries all in various forms of traditional dress... all very smart! However, various guests went out of their way to help us feel at home and even King walked across the hall after our performance to thank us and shake our hands. A night to remember.

Our thoughts are with you Cathy. We can sense your deep passion to work on your website posts.

You bet us to the punch! As I was reading your blog, I kept thinking, a small notebook is one answer. So glad you can take notes.

We know eventually this too shall pass. The key is endurance which you seem to have a lot of, not by choice but by need.

We are thinking of you. Like you said you do have a lot to be thankful for. Hang in there. We want to you be healthy when you do have time.

Thank you so much for your warm thoughts and words.

I wish the same for you. Stay safe and healthy.

We have to keep in mind, that this will pass, and times will get better. I can hardly wait :-)

Have a great day.

Cathy

Cathrin you are a superhero in my mind for being in the frontline and still finding some time, really any time, to do blogs. I know it must get extremely tough at times so I salute you. I am asking that you continue to stay safe and be well.
Hugh

Thank you for your kind words, Hugh.

It can be hard finding the time, but I'm doing the best I can.

I have to accept that I am not getting as much done as I would like at this time. I'll get there :-)

Take care

Cathy

I hear you. Hopefully things will settle down over the next few months and you will get the space you need.
Hugh

I pray it will.

Thank you again.

Cathy

Sure Cathy

We find really useful is dividing the hour into six portions at 10 minutes intervals and stick to the ten minutes whereby we do 6 different activities in that same hour. It can be done, it needs discipline.

When there's a will, there's always a way!

Thanks for sharing a wonderful post.

Was that helpful?

Awesome suggestion!

That's a very smart idea and a piece of very good advice.

I'll try your method if I can find the discipline ;-)

Thank you.

Cathy
