From my cover photo, you may have guessed what week it is here and around the world.
This is the Start of Carnival Week in places like Trinidad, Brazil and New Orleans. For the next 9 days, these places will be flooded with visitors who want to enjoy the culture, music, food, costumes and never-ending fetes (parties).
This is a non-stop week and everything comes to a dead halt at midnight on Carnival (Shrove) Tuesday.
As we say in Trini: "We invented Party and we'll do it 'til we drop."
We Invented The Steelpan
The steelpan is the Engine Room of our Carnival. It was born out of discrimination, loss, hardship and a longing to establish something to call our own.
It is the part of our Carnival that I love the most.
People are always fascinated by this 20th-century instrument and the energy and passion that it ignites.
We are proud of it and happy to share it with the world.
Where Is Your Energy Level, This Week?
Energy is at the heart of everything that we do and feel.
You cannot sustain passionate creativity without energy that is congruent with the results you are after. If you want strong, meaningful results, you have to invest that level of energy as well.
This week, my energy level is at a natural high. Well, higher than usual. 😅
We are in the City and all around us - day and night, music of some kind is blasting away. It gets even louder and more inciteful when a truck, loaded with huge speaker boxes passes by playing one of our seasonal Soca songs.
I am writing this blog post while listening to the radio, singing along and dancing.
A fantastic energy booster!

When I lived in Brazil they planned for the whole year for these festivities..
Back in the UK they make pancakes... and here in France, absolutely nothing!!

I enjoyed 2 years of Brazil's Carnivals, many in the UK, US and Canada and spent 3 months in New Orleans experiencing theirs.
All are fantastic but, as they say, there is no place like home.
We call Trinidad Carnival the Mecca of all Carnivals with good reason.
Like Brazil, we start planning for the next year, on Ash Wednesday. 😂
And Shrove Tuesday pancakes are still a tradition in our home.
Maybe we need to get over to France and show them how it's done. 😉
