COVID-19 - Prediction or Powerful Imagination?
Friday the 13th Didn't Fail To Deliver
These past days have been pretty intense. Everything happening has kept me not just busy, but engaged and on the move. Yesterday, for the first time in many months. I did not turn on my laptop. That felt like I was going to drop into an abyss and never return. My laptop is my lifeblood and connects me to work, family, friends, learning, information . . . life as I know it.
When Trinidad & Tobago recorded it's first COVID-19 case on Thursday, March 12, 2020, my laptop was my immediate go-to companion. I got my news, checked in with family and friends to alert them and then started to communicate with Clients regarding our approach to projects and timelines.
By Friday the 13th I was consumed by all that was happening around the world as a result of this new virus. So much so, that I made a decision to disconnect yesterday. I limited myself to only my cell phone for direct contact. I felt overwhelmed and needed time to accept what was on my doorstep.
It was a long day but clearly had no objective of letting up. While talking with a close relative, I received the news that we had recorded our 2nd case of COVID-19.
We expect more announcements in short time. Schools and places of learning have been closed until further notice. No gatherings are permitted for more than 100 persons. Our supermarkets look as though people are preparing to go to war as they grab everything from canned foods to toilet paper!
Prices are going up by the minute for items left on the shelves. Our boarders are being shut down. Importation of new supplies are now very limited and the timelines for re-stocking are unknown.
That's Black Friday for you.
Nature Will Fight Back
Published in 1962 by Rachel Carson, Silent Spring explored nature's fragile balance and the impact that imbalance would have on the earth, its animals, plants and organisms. Although Carson discussed the rising use of insecticides in her book, one prediction stayed with me when I first read the book in the early eighties.
The spinal theme of Silent Spring is the increasing negative and always powerful effect that humans have on the natural world. The book changed my life completely. The food I ate, the way I cared for the environment and my relationship with the animal kingdom.
If COVID-19 started the way it is reported, then we humans have to take responsibility. We have not yet learned how to live in harmony with nature and respect its role. Carson predicted that nature will fight back and she was right.
Dark Days Ahead
In 1981 Dean Koontz published his non-fiction, science novel, The Eyes of Darkness. The Protagonist is a mother who discovered that her son was being kept in a military facility after he was infected with a man-made microorganism called "Wuhan-400".
Although his novel is non-fiction, the theme of it alerts the reader to the impact of the exponential spreading of a virus or microorganism. Once out of control, it reeks havoc on the human population.
Again, this is a demonstration that playing with the natural course of things WILL have far-reaching effects.
Are These The End of Days?
Possible predictions got closer to home in 2008 when a Psychic, Sylvia Browne wrote her novel, End of Days. She wrote that: "a severe pneumonia-like illness will spread throughout the globe, attacking the lungs and the bronchial tubes and resisting all known treatments. " around the year 2020.
This novel perhaps, comes closest to the real-life experience the world is having now.
It continues: "Almost more baffling than the illness itself will be the fact that it will suddenly vanish as quickly as it has arrived, attack again 10 years later, and then disappear completely."
Some have been saying that because the book was written just after SARS-CoV was identified in 2003, that COVID-19 may also be the "second-coming".
The common thread here speaks to the effects of our relationship with our environment and nature.
Live Well
At this juncture, and without the ability to see into the future, I cannot conclude whether these were predictions or great writing. What I do know is that we are not living well with nature. Each novel and our current experiences around the world speak to that very pointedly and clearly.
If we do not make deep, direct and concerted changes to our lifestyles NOW, these events will become a way of life.

What an interesting post with all this information thank you!
Let’s not panic. It may sound naive to you, but I'm sure science will get us out of this bad moment. A cure will come and it will start to calm this global crisis and the vaccine will appease the world. We are far from the end of the world, we just have to learn to live differently for a few weeks.
Let's keep the faith and remain united and weld until the end of this bad moment and even after!

The book Silent Sring was a warning too few people listened to.
Since then we have been abusing Mother Nature and with our actions creating more and more disbalance.
Turning away from nature has its severe consequences which we all will have to pay. Actually we are paying already because you only have to look at the overall health of the people. The normal burger is full of men-made food with a load of pills to top it off. No wonder we are in lousy shape.
At the moment we should use our common sense, avoid big crowds, wash our hands and take it easy.

Cassi nature is not attacking us nature is being nature, for ages the Chinese have kept ducks in close quarters with pigs that is why all the flus come from China. Ducks carry the flu virus but can't just transmit it to humans but can to pigs and pigs then in turn can transmit it to humans. So what is so strange that eventually the virus would eventually mutate, I myself am not shocked since nature is forever changing things from the smallest amoeba on up. Nature is forever trying to improve upon itself that's how we got here, that's how life got here. Think back of the days of the bubonic plague at least we have science today whereas all they could do was die and wait. Think smart, keep yourself clean, that's it, I'm 73 I'll survive and do it with a smile.

Ummmmm... What changes in our lifestyle can we make now to prevent the spread of deadly viruses???
Fear mongering has been around for a very long time and that is all this post is pointing out to me.

We are in lock down as of today we are under quarantine for two weeks (obviously going to stretch longer than that) we can still go to shop, petrol, pharmacy etc for now but borders are closed, schools shut down and more and more people are doing their best from home. There are single digit few cases and govt. obviously want it to stay that way!!.
