Why and Why Not To Reveal Your Niche's URL

Hello everyone, I would first like to introduce myself. My name is Shelton but I got by AmdMan and have since 1999 when I built my second computer from the ground up using the AMD processor. I ended up picking that name when I did my first BETA test of a game that everyone may have heard of, EQ (EverQuest.)

Now I know I am knew here, and I think this place is awesome. There is so much to learn and so much more to achieve, but I have found that most people here for what ever reason are never wanting to reveal there Niche's URL. Now first before I dig into this, let me give you a little more back ground on myself.

I am a gamer at heart, and I love building computers. I built my first computer from the ground up, back in 1998 with my brothers assistance and guidance. He is also the one that flared up my interest in networking and programming as well as building computers. I went to college for computer science and networking for NOVELL, who has since sold off.

I started BETA testing games in 1999, and built my first website from the ground up in 2000 for a group of friends that I was playing another game with called Ghost Recon, and also Rainbow Six, which is when I got interested in website design. Times have changed so much since then and honestly I find myself at times bucking the system when it comes to how websites are built today. Don't get me wrong it is so much easier now, but I find that some of the creative thinking and design is now gone. Things we use to be able to do we no longer can and that really disappoints me at times.

Non the less this leads to my Blog post today. I don't get it, and maybe I never will get it and that is OK. Why and Why not to reveal your URL was thought of because, well I can see why and understand a little bit, now hold up your hand take your thumb and your index finger and bring them almost tip to tip touching right where they are about to touch but aren't. Yeah that is the little bit I understand, it isn't much at all.

Why not to share your URL, because you are afraid someone is going to steal your idea, or because you think you are keeping a top secret from someone to your success. I don't know honestly I don't get it not even a little bit. I may never understand it but that is OK, and that doesn't mean I am a non-understanding person, I am very understanding on most things and very helpful when I can be as well.

Why to share your URL, this has a million reasons, well not really but there are a lot of reasons to. For one, maybe someone is needing to make sure there outlay of there site is right or at least close and by allowing them to see yours it will help guide them a little in the right direction. I mean really we help each other here do we not? Sharing your URL will bring more traffic to your Niche site, more traffic brings more sales, more sales brings you more money, more money helps you get to financial freedom, and financial freedom allows you to start living the life the way you are dreaming of that much faster.

The reason I bring this is up is because I was looking at a few peoples posts where they showed there productivity in helping keep peoples spirits up and motivated. I have been wondering if my site was set up for my Niche correctly or not and seeing these people sites would have told me this, I mean they are being successful so hey why not look and see if my sites layout was close to there's, but no. NO can do, they won't share, they won't give us a chance to maybe purchase something from there site because it is top secret.

Heck I don't even think NSA, FBI, CIA, or heck there very own governor is allowed to see there site. How am I to know, it is so top secret that, we can put a bounty out on there site and we will get nothing. It is underground, padlocked, and then camouflaged, so that we will never be able to find it. Well fine keep your site top secret, I will gladly share my sites with everyone.

I want to inspire others, more then just writing words on a page show statistics. If my page will help you get to where you want to be that much quicker then awesome, I figure your success is my success. Heck you might find something on my site that you want to buy, and then I will make money, reach my goal of financial freedom that much quicker and finally get to start living the life I only dream of right now.

Oh don't look at my site right now though, it isn't too inspiring I tore it all down, except for the home page as I am building from the ground up again and going through all the lessons even more. Well one of my sites I am, my review site you can go see right now I don't mind at all, well really you can go look at both I don't mind. Here are both of there addresses.

http://ouraffiliatenetworking.... this is my review site

http://mycompwarehouse.com and this is my niche site.

Now as I said don't be disappointed in my niche site, it is going through a face lift. I honestly felt the layout was all wrong and I was missing something. I don't worry about you stealing my ideas or my niche because I know I will put so much work into it, that it will be hard to compete with me, but also because hey. You reach your goals, then that means you will just be one more person for me to be inspired by.

I hope I haven't offended anyone by writing this but I had to get this off my mind. It struck a nerve for me since all I want to do is help others, either through my site in helping people find the products they are looking for that much easier and being the best product for there dollar, or by helping here on the site to guide and help people get one step closer to there goal.

I will close this out with my trade mark ending of all my reviews,

I can handle the truth, can you?

This is AmdMan still here since 1999

Hey, hi! It's nice to see you making progress.

I've seen this idea come up a few times here. Some WA members have apparently had the unpleasant experience of having their entire site duplicated after sharing with members.

I can only take them at their word: I have no way of knowing if the copycats were members, or simply surfers who see the pages after WA gets indexed. I can't tell whether their sites were randomly scraped as some sites are, or if they were targeted as WA members.

I can appreciate their anxieties. Stealing content that people have worked hard to create is upsetting. I also have additional concerns about the kinds of groups or individuals who duplicate, and why. I've observed some very interesting activity in the duplication of marketing funnels, for instance. So it comes as no surprise to me then to see expensive anti-scraping services offered to busineses.

It would be lovely to hear from people who've had this experience, please let me hear your stories. If people are willing to be interviewed for my PhD project, I'd be most grateful.

Hello, and hope all is going well with you.

I do understand what you are saying, and if this was found to be happening I would think there is something they can do to take action in cases like this if found to be true when it comes to someone stealing someone else idea.

I would personally think if they can show this to be the case they could take it up with Kyle for one and he could take very quick action in these cases. I would also note, I would think you could also report there sites for plagiarism do to the fact they would be coping your content.

I don't know what all actions could be done, but non the less I feel that you are only hurting yourself, not saying you but those that don't share there sites even if they have this fear. As I said I have no problem with it because if I don't share I am actually cutting how many possible visitors to my site and then in turn loosing on how many sells.

Either way the reason I started this blog remains the same, I hope that people will see that there are way more factors that will out way the reasons not to share, number one being by not sharing you are losing money, literally throwing them right out the door.

Best of luck on your project as well.

Hiya.

Scraping of sites is common, and there are a variety of subscription services promising to do away with this. Some appear to be pretty effective, but they aren't cheap!

If and when site owners become aware of their site being duplicated, they can submit DCMA take down orders to Google.

On the WA side of things, I'm led to believe they are active in their management of spam and fraud. I'll assume that a part of this involves rebuffing the bots that do a lot of the scraping online. As for those who manually copy, and/or have used WA hosted sites to do this - I don't know. I'd love to hear some accounts of what happened and what was done from people here.

As for potentially missing a source of traffic - possibly, because WA pages are regularly indexed and well-ranked. This is what makes it so attractive to drive-by spammers who set up temp accounts solely to post to our boards. But otherwise, if you have a highly targeted niche, why would it be useful to assume your audience was here?

I really enjoy reading about people's success stories, and very much appreciate the details they offer about how they do what they do. Stats are wonderful. I'm grateful as you are when these are shared.

That said, some of WA's members are long-time business owners for whom this course is just an additional element of a pretty comprehensive long-term business, and it isn't in any interest of theirs to reveal that side of house. They are pretty private, even if successful members, and I have no expectation that they will break in their pattern of business just because they joined the course. I don't think they're harming their interests, rather, protecting them.
