My Niche
So I am up to lesson 3 in discovering my niche. So I have thought very hard about it.
They say you should stick with what you know so I have thought really hard about that and narrowed it down to 3 things and would like some feedback about which one would be a good and interesting way to start on this and attract business so here they are
1. I know lots about IT. I can walk into nearly any IT situation and make things happen that no one else could. I have worked alI around the world and have had a successful career in it that has brought me lots of great options in life. It seems though that this industry now thinks I am a bit old so I am not sure this is a good market .
2. I know about being a woman. I know what it is like to be a little girl who is smarter than the average bear growing up in a traditional happy household where success will be measured by getting married and having babies and knowing really early on that wasn't for me. I know what it is like to be a woman who no matter what job I walked into I never got paid what the man who had it before me did. I know what it like to be in an industry like IT from the very beginning where I was more often than not the only woman or in a very small minority. I know what it is like to be the first woman appointed to a board and have the the chairman continually call me "girly". I know what it is like to be the head of a world first project and have the supplier arrive and ask me to get them a coffee. I know that with all that to deal with it with laughter and no bitterness and still really like men. I know what it is like to lead a team of 180 and make sure that all my staff were grown and worked together with fun and laughter and were more productive and to ensure the women in my team were treated well and helped along with a bit of special attention. I know that my worst bosses were often women and never understood why. I know what is like to love someone and lose them. I know what it is like to be a victim of domestic violence. I know what it is like to have a male surgeon tell me I have cancer and that I have to have all of the bits that make me a women ripped out with virtually no empathy. I don't know what it is like to be a mum but I know what it is like to lose a child. I now all the pitfalls of online dating and have lots of hilarious stories to tell. I know what it is like to sail around Australia as a single female and again have many hilarious stories to tell. I know that during menopause especially after a hysterectomy, that you think you are going mad and there are few places to go for help because everyone thinks you are a happy and balanced individual and can't deal with you being something else so you just pretend.
So with all that the kind of site I am thinking of creating is an advisory site mainly aimed at women's issues to give help and direction that may attract pharmaceuticals, counselors, lawyers, fashion sponsorship etc. I would love to use this site to perhaps get on a speaking circuit as I am an excellent public speaker.
3. I know Dogs. If I had 2 million $ I would definitely run a dog vacation home but I believe pets area huge market everywhere and creating a site for Pet information and products might be good and is something I feel passionate about
So these are my three options what do you all think would be a good "niche"

Very interesting Carmel. Since I'm also from IT bagkground, I'll never want to go there again and thats my personal opinion. No 2 and No 3 are some thing that you can try out. But both markets are huge and you have to narrow down some more. Etc: What is your expertise on woman and dog. There must be something that you like the most or you know the most on this two market. That will help us to help you.
BTW, by reading your article, I think a site to inspire people with all your story might suit as well. And since you're also good in public speaking, you may video blog your stories to inspire people. Hope this helps and kindly feedback to gets thing started.
