Updating and revising your post is a great idea, but, Google has the final say whether or not to improve your site's ranking.

Some people would rather spend that time just creating a new post while others don't mind making revisions. In the end, do what you think is best because no one can give you a definite answer.

I'm not really an expert with this but.. I think you are okay if you don't change the title or the keyword that has ranked you.
