Entering Constructive Feedback

So the last few days I've discovered the SiteComment and SiteFeedback function of WA. Amazing little thing, isn't it? While I'm still wading through the lessons and adding stuff on my site, I find it just as helpful to learn how to give constructive feedback and seeking it in return. (I still have to get over myself not asking for comments!) I'm also still trying to figure out how to spread out enough time giving comments and still working on my stuff. Regardless, I have something to part about giving good feedback.

The Sandwich Method (Someone tell me why I can't put headers. D:)

This is a method I have been using since I was critiquing people's speeches when I was in Toastmasters. This is a very helpful and encouraging method to give and it's super easy to learn! The format goes like this:

Positive - Negative - Positive

You start off with positive stuff, like how good-looking their site is, or how clean it is. You want to make the person asking for feedback feel good and emphasize what they have done good so that they can keep on doing it.

Next is the stuff that you don't like. This is stuff that they need to work on. Don't tell them they suck, tell them something they can work on. You can also provide suggestions to help them alleviate this downfall. IE: You should be more careful about spelling, I suggest using the Spellcheck function.

And finally end it off with a positive point. It is going to be another thing they did good on, and if they're new and especially it's their first time, emphasize that good thing and tell them to keep on doing it! Like I always tell new people: "It's a good thing you started, your first step is always the hardest." This section makes them feel good again, despite the negative feedback, and again emphasizes that they have something good they have in their hands. You want to encourage that.
