When you're in the valley dig a well.

Well the truth of every ending is that it's the beginning to something else. I believe I've reached the last lesson of the second unit here at WA and my "task" is to write a blog. I am not very good at dry things and writing for no purpose at all other then to fulfil a requirement so, ironically, I have thought about this exercise more than most. Because I am so busy this has preoccupied my mind, if not my time, for days. What I wanted most to do, it seems, is not to share how I am doing but rather to encourage others who are struggling, like me, to get ahead and achieve success.

We all want to succeed. We all want to achieve something "more" in our lives than we have enjoyed previously. Each one of us has our own stories (and some more desperate and heart wrenching than others).

We all have our reasons that are worthy.

What I have noticed is that many of us are here because we feel that we are in a valley and we would really like, with an intense desperation, to be on the mountain top.

Being in a valley can be overwhelming. The path ahead seems steep and unknown. Most of all it can seem long and at times unobtainable. Heck, sometimes we can't even perceive the mountain top because the clouds are in the way and contemplating what's "up there" is just beyond our reach.

It's in these times that we need to take stock and, instead of getting bogged down and stuck and wallowing in our "no options" attitude of despair, we need to work hard and dig a well.

This doesn't mean life gets easy all of a sudden.

Wells sometimes need to be deep and to get to the source of water requires hard work , faith and a whole lot of the unknown. We will still be in the valley for a while longer yet. You can't carry a well with you! What digging a well gives you though is time to take stock and gain sustenance; find the "water" you need for the journey and you give yourself the resources you need to start the journey upward.

Don't worry if you can't imagine standing on a summit with your fists in the air shouting "I made it!!!"

Focus on the next bend in the path and celebrate that there's something beyond it that you hadn't anticipated. Break new ground and know it will clear a path for not only yourself but for others coming on the same journey. Give another a hand up and share some of your water along the way.

Remember where you came from... because journeys are full of valleys; and there is always opportunity to rest a while and dig a well.

Regards and journey well,

Heather
