It's Just A Number. Right?

It's Just A Number. Right?

When I started with Wealthy Affiliate in February 2018, I was number 86,896. A good starting point. I very slowly started to see the number drop as I went through the courses and learned about blogs and posts. I was building my website and it was taking shape.

The Downhill slope. Or Is It Uphill??

My number dropped to 83,452. My goal was to pass the 50,000 mark. A goal that I set somewhere in my mind and then promptly forgot about it. I really didn't think it was very important.

I kept doing the courses, building my website and filling it out, and once in a while I would write a post for the community to see. I wasn't very good at making time for writing a blog/post.

I noticed that my number was suddenly below 65,000. Wow! I guess I was doing something right.

I kept doing the courses, building my website and filling it out, and once in a while I would write a post for the community to see. I wasn't very good at making time for a blog/post. (Yes I just copied that paragraph. LOL!) I was not really paying a lot of attention to my "Rank".

One day I noticed that my number had dropped again, to below 48,000. WooHoo! I had passed my goal. Time for a new one. I aimed for 25,000 thinking it was going to take me months to achieve it. And, then again, promptly forgot about my "goal" as I engulfed myself in my website content and development.

I kept on doing as I had been doing, plus I was adding more content. Now, I don't mind writing when I have something to say. I find it easy to create pages of dialogue. So, content on my website wasn't hard to come up with usually.

Is Writing The Key?

My number was suddenly 21,000 something. Another goal reached! (Considering it was not a hard and fast goal, just a number I randomly picked) Not bad. It was moving in big steps now. And, I had only been with WA for a month and a half. Time for a new random number. I was going to see if I could make it to 5,000. A big step.

Now writing really is my forte. It always has been. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I am an avid reader. I always aced my writing classes in college, and proofed other students papers before they turned them in. I am a stickler for grammatically correct sentences and well spelled words. I even like to throw in the occasional unique vocabulary word.

Suddenly my number started dropping really fast. I broke the 10,000 mark and sped towards ..... and past my 5,000 goal! I was speeding right along.

So, I kept writing content for my website. I was getting indexed in Google with every post. Cool, I thought. I set a new goal at 1,000. A long way off I thought. Months away.

Nope. Last week, at under three months at WA, I noticed one day that my number was 900! I was impressed. So how about 500. And, once again I pretty much spaced the whole "Rank" thing.

Well, today when I logged in I noticed that I had a 1 in my profile picture. (Yes, I know what that means) And, next to it I saw that my number had dropped to 403! Wow! I'm not even sure that the number is all that important. It's not something I strived to change. I didn't really start out to change it. I have my plate full just keeping up with the courses and my website (and the second one I'm also putting together at the same time). I don't even regularly post, like I am today.

I used to think that the lower the number the more experience and time with WA. It represented years doing what I want to do, and doing it well. Or, so I thought. Recently I was told that wasn't so. Oops, my bad!

I mean, it's cool to think that I rank below 500 now and started at over 86,000. Impressive I guess. I think. Maybe ....

I wonder where I'll be ranked tomorrow. I almost think I can see it ready to flip to a lower number as I write this. My next goal is to break 100 in less than two weeks. Hmmmm..... This one I will pay attention to.

But what does the number under "Rank" really signify? Is it something we need to really be aware of and strive for?

What do you think or know about our "Rank" number? Let me see the chatter my peeps. I am anxiously awaiting your responses.

Candice
