Giveaways. Yay or Nay?

Lately, I've been researching things I could do to help build my following. I read somewhere that doing a giveaway could help.

I think it would definitely help get some buzz going. I'm not sure if people would stick around afterwards though. I guess it depends on whether or not they like my content.

Has anyone here hosted a giveaway? Did it help build your following?

I think it depends on the nature of your audience. I'm one of those people that is usually turned off by giveaways and offers for my email. I prefer someone to just ask if I want to be on their email list for updates and newsletters or whatever.

I'm guessing though, that my opinion on that is probably not very popular. But I run things how I want to be approached, so I lean on the conservative side of most sales stuff.

For every new person you get, you may not know how many people are completely turned off and go elsewhere.

There are even things taught here in Wealthy Affiliate that I kind of cringe when I see. Oh well, to each his own. I suspect most people do not think like me though. :)

Thank you. It's true, you may not share the average opinion, but it's interesting to hear the other perspective :)

Hi Calista, giveaways are always attractive and they certainly attract an audience. I have downloaded books for example free to me but a tool I may use to gain some followers.
Please don't ever doubt yourself. Why would anyone not like your content. Also the free gift comes after they have gone through your site. Always ask for an email address before they get their free content. Great idea go for it, and all the best.

Thank you for the tips and kind words Michael :)

The goal of the giveaway is that email. If they are on your site you know there is something about it that drew them there. Yes, you want interaction, but the email helps you to keep contact with them
As they saying goes the fortune is in the list.

Thank you for the advice. I've been meaning to look more into setting up email. Maybe now's the time

You can jump up your numbers quite a bit if you offer people 5 extra entries if they share the offer on Facebook

Thank you, that's a good idea!

I tried a giveaway to generate more likes and traffic on facebook, I didn't get much of a response unfortunately

Oh that's too bad. Maybe try a different platform? I find Instagram to be my favourite avenue.

I will definitely try that. I have opened an account there but don't know how to use it yet! I'll look at doing that very soon!

Nice! I wish you luck!

Thank you I will check that out!

I just did a giveaway and in the first 2 days I have gained a few new subscribers. I used an item that is a brand I am supporting and selling on my site - a simple funko pop toy. I ran an ad on pinterest and google and it seems to work so as a result I am now going to do monthly giveaways just as another avenue to increase traffic. Good luck!!

Awesome, kudos to your success! And thank you for the ideas :)

I've never done a giveaway, but I plan to in the near future. The hardest thing is figuring out what to giveaway. The word "giveaway" certainly gets attention, but they aren't for everyone.

It works if you do it right. What you want to do is make the giveaway specific to your niche. That way you're less likely to get people who are just trying to get free stuff. If you do reviews, you can offer those products as a giveaway too.

Also, limit the requirements of your giveaway. The ones on instagram that have 20 requirements are overwhelming. If you're looking to grow your email list, consider an entry an subscribtion to your email list. If you want to grow your Instagram or Facebook, require that they follow you. There are programs that help you track this. Just don't overwhelm them or they may not bother.

Hope this helps and let us know how it goes if you decide to do one.

I agree with making the giveaway specific. That's smart to possibly giveaway something I've done a review on, thank you.

Another smart idea to limit the requirements. I've seen giveaways before where I wanted to enter, but ended up not entering because it seemed like too much work.

Thank you for the advice!

Sure I hosted a giveaway , its help to me a lot.

I have done some research on giveaways.

What I found is;

People will sign up for your email just to get the giveaway but never participate. Some suggest it is not the best way.

My take on it is;

If they sign up no matter what the reason they are still on your email list, and you can send them emails. Even if a small percentage open the email, you are still ahead of where you were.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

If you do a giveaway, please let me know how it goes just for my information.

Thank You
Laura

That's true. A sign up is still a sign up. For sure, I will write another blog post with results later on!

Thank you. I will be interested to see what you see.

I have also heard the same thing! I feel that yes, doing a giveaway would absolutely increase your conversion rate. Congrats, and this is only my opinion ok. Wish you the best Calistaw!

Thank you, I think so too!
