Dreaming…A Right or a Privilege?

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up

like a raisin in the sun?

Or fester like a sore—

And then run?

Does it stink like rotten meat?

Or crust and sugar over—

like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags

like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

-Harlem, By Langston Hughes

People like me aren't at liberty to dream. At least that's what I'm told. Or its implied when I speak to anyone about creating a life of freedom via the internet. I mean sure, I'll get a J-O-B, cause I know I need one to sustain me right now, but I don't want to leave myself no time for me just because I made the decision to have my three kids and detour the path I was on that had me basking in the freedom to dream of not having to have the conventional life. I also didn't plan on their father not loving me anymore, or caring for us, and probably shouldn't have given all of my financial, well not just financial really, all of my power over to him. But I did, and I have, so I know what it feels like to have to be so consumed with doing for someone else, making someone else's dreams be true, come true, that you never have time for you. So, that is why I defy working a flexible shift between 7am and 9pm, cuz companies don't care nothing bout you. Will rotate that schedule as often as they want to and have you questioning "what I am supposed to do with this dream, these dreams stored inside of me". I could be stubborn, or maybe I just got spoiled before getting fired from my job in the name of loving someone else so much, and he didn't care why I saw how good that job was for me. Because it allowed me to make full time money 25 hours a week and still be free with my time. And, it showed me what a waste of time working any more hours than that per week really is. Folks don't give you 8 hours a day anyway. And I thought I was the only one who thought this way until I met people making money online. And, read The Four Hour Work Week. I need these places, these communities, these reassurances that I"m not crazy. That dreams are worth having and that everyone has the right to be so privileged to do so.

So, just as bold as I was in walking away from a relationship that was pulling me down, abusing me, making me feel less than just to be. I'm going to be as bold and declare that what I want from here will be successful, because I have the audacity to, in my situation, go after my dreams.

Peace.

I had stopped dreaming until I found WA. Now, I am full of dreams.

You should never stop chasing your dreams. Dreams give us motivation to push harder and strive for more. We've all made mistakes and we've all had somebody tell us we can't. I have a ton of dreams, will they all come true? Maybe not. But that is one thing I have that NOBODY can take away from me...my dreams. My aspirations.

I, too, walked away from a relationship that was holding me back. And the freedom I gained from it has changed my life forever. I am a better person now and I learned a lot from the relationship. I got what I needed from it and then closed that chapter. Now I can focus on me. Best wishes to you, follow your dreams.

My question is, who are these people who are telling you, you are not allowed to dream? Take a good look at them. Most of the time, they have stopped going for their dreams either because they bought the lie from others or because they just didn't want to chase it anymore. Not being in a position to dream might be right for them, but that doesn't mean you can't.

Good on you for having a dream and actually doing something about it! That makes you a winner already. You are out in front simply because you decided you would follow your dream. It took Nelson Mandela 27 years to achieve his dream of freedom, but he got there. It's not going to take that long with your dream lol. Definitley chase it I say - heck, get out in front and lead the way!

A dream is your right and you go for it! Enjoyed your post. Keep it up. One suggestion and I know you are still new here, break up your paragraphs more. Makes it easier to read. Then more people will enjoy what you write. :) Cheers Patti
