About CAbernathy

I have done many things in my life. I've done building maintenance, mechanic work, building construction, and factory work. Add all that to a Bachelor's in Biology with a Writing Minor and I guess I should have said I was a "jack-of-all-trades... master to none."

I am a creative thinker who likes to find new solutions to old problems, manufacture steps to increase efficiency and implement steps necessary to become a better person both in my personal and professional life.

I have recently rekindled the creative and imaginative spirit I possessed in my youth. Knowing I have been given these gifts and abilities, I want to be sure that I use them before they die. I don't think I would like the person I would become without them.

So that is why I am here at Wealthy Affiliate. I want to make my hobbies my job and use my creative and imaginative power to earn the living I know I deserve. All the while blessing people as much as I can along the way.

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

Hey Kyle!

Things are going well. TimMcKinley has been working with me a bit on my niche. One of my hobbies is stop-motion movie creation. As I have searched out on YouTube I notice there are a lot of stop-motion movies that really aren't that great. There are a few good ones that use action figures to make these movies, but many of them are not of good quality. So I was thinking of making a website dedicated to helping people with this hobby become better equipped with the tools necessary for making a decent quality stop-motion movie. So this goes into the part where as I go through different things, such as what camera to use, set designs, story creation, organization, etc., which are all things that I could link-affiliate to sites like Amazon and embed these products into each topic I talk about. So that is my niche I think I'm going to pursue. Any ideas on how I might make this better?

Tim has helped me to realize that this is going to take a while to create the content I need for this website. I would love for this to be something I could just quit my job right now and do, but I must real and having you guys point out those realities helps me know that you all are legit. As far as going to premium, I am going to stay at the free section now and do what I can with it. We are on a tight budget where we don't even have Internet at home. However, I do know that most of the work (the writing part of it anyway) can be done offline.

As far as an introduction, I am a graduate of Missouri University of Science and Technology. I got a degree in Biological Sciences with a minor in Technical Writing. However, I graduated in Dec 2008 soon after the economy went to crap and have been working just to get by. I have had a lot of construction experience and even taught 8th grade Math for a couple of years. Right now I am working at a window manufacturing company and have been there for 2 years. Just doing this until I can find that next step. I am becoming more convinced that this next step is looking more like becoming an Internet affiliate. My hobbies include building with Legos, stop-motion movie making, hiking, and writing (I have self published one book and am working on some others).

Anyways, I've got to get back to the training. Thanks for providing me with what will hopefully be the fulfillment of some of my hobbies and maybe a future income.

Sincerely,
-Chad Abernathy

I think your niche idea is a cool one and you can absolutely head in that direction. You want to embrace this niche and then make it your focus to become the expert in this space, which will happen with time Chad. You can reach whatever level of success online that you are willing to work for and we can help you with every aspect of this here at WA.

I have spent some time breaking down the process in the most simplistic way possible. Success online is at the core a 4 step process and I have broken them down within this video: Broken, down, the process looks like this:

Step 1: Choose your niche
Step 2: Build your website/content
Step 3: Get rankings in search engines (leads to traffic)
Step 4: Monetize your traffic (the make money part, through affiliate programs, etc!)

This applies in absolutely every niche and as you work through the training here at WA, you are going to be walked through this exact process. This is fundamental for ANY success online.

If you have any further questions let me know Chad. :)

Hey Tim! Thanks a lot for all of those bonuses! I'm definitely going to need to cash in on those as time progresses. So I have a few questions starting off.

I really enjoy building with Legos and other brands of building blocks and I am very interested in making my own stop-motion movies with some action figures I have collected. I think I have two niches here: one the personal Lego set creation and then the stop-motion movie making blog.

Some of the specifics about the stop-motion blog would be promoting different makes/models of cameras on Amazon, posting information about how to do different things in stop-motion and publishing my own stop-motions on YouTube.

I know it sounds cheesey, but I have searched on YouTube for examples of stop-motion before and have found a few good ones and tons of not-so-great ones. My mission with this blog would be to enable people who have this hobby to enjoy it better. What are some of your thoughts?

Also, I realize that this is going to start taking more and more of my time. What is your advice on how soon I might be able to do this in place of my current job? I currently make around $2200 a month and I'm pretty sick of the daily grind and want to do something I love, but I've got a family to provide for.

I'm sure I will have more questions. I'm a pretty quick study on the website builder stuff. I've used blogs and other things for class projects before in college, so the technical stuff is pretty easy. I am sure I will be asking you more questions as time goes on. Thanks Tim and I'm glad your website got me here!

Hey Chad,

You've got some great ideas there, and your thinking on the content and how you will montetize are spot on.

"My mission with this blog would be to enable people who have this hobby to enjoy it better. What are some of your thoughts?"

Pure gold. That's what I think. It's people like you with a true passion for what they do that succeed head and shoulders above the pack.

"What is your advice on how soon I might be able to do this in place of my current job?"

Yes, this is a valid question. I'd love to tell you it will happen quickly, but the reality is it could be months before you are making money. Longer until you can quit your job. But $2k per month is EASILY achievable within 12-18 months. Especially with such a focussed niche like yours where the competition is lower. I mean, you could achieve it much quicker than this but this is being conservative so as not to raise your expectations to high.

I do recommend you to focus on ONE website/ niche at a time though. It does depend on the person. But in my experience, distraction and a widely spread focus are among your worst enemies to success. Eliminate as much distraction as possible so you can achieve your ONE goal.

I agree those are two separate niches. My advice is to choose the one you are most passionate about, then do your keyword research to find your main target keyword. Take your time in the research phase, but at the same time try not to overanalyse things. Reach out with any questions on this too if you need to.

You are most welcome Chad, it's great to see you taking massive action and I will be happy to help you in any way I can moving forward! Cheers
