Well this WA thing is looking suspiciously like it works. I have built my website, added posts and, importantly, sprinkled low competition keywords throughout the posts and alt text on images. Et voila! two weeks later I am starting to see these keywords pop up on page 2 and 3 of Yahoo, with a few on Google also. I will just keep cranking out quality content and working through my keyword list - being careful not to repeat the same keywords.... Onwards and upwards!
