Anyone else see weird Russian activity in analytics?

I checked all three of my websites and by over 50% majority I have Russian's visiting my site out of nowhere.

They were sent by referral, so I did some research and it seems like Russian hackers have been messing with analytics and in hopes of the website owners visiting that url.

One URL under "Language" reads this...

If you can't read it, it says "secret(dot)google(dot)com You are invited!Enter only with this ticket URL. Copy it. Vote for Trump! "

The strangest thing lol

I did hear of a conspiracy that the Russians hired some of their people to become trolls on the internet and sway the American's to vote for Trump.

There is a small interview on YouTube with one of the "trolls" covered up, but talking about what they do...

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and what should I do about it?

Thanks

~Mike

This is a known referrer spam site. I recommend using the free Referrer Spam Blocker to keep this and many other spammers from skewing your analytics. https://referrerspamblocker.com/ is the link. You can also see a list of the sites they block at https://referrerspamblocker.com/blacklist. secret(dot)google(dot)com is one of them.

Tom,
Thank you so much for your help! I will look into this!

It's also on my analytics, 75 sessions.

Seems to be a good percentage of us, I wonder if Kyle or Carson have any advice on this matter...

I hope both of them will see this blog post and take actions.

Check out those websites Tom listed above! I am using it right now and blacklisting all of those spam referrals links

I haven't come across this but will be sure to have a look :)

I am also on the lookout for any address that says .ru

I had checked mine and I had the same thing happen with me too.
74 from my one site with Russian visitors and 75 from my other site. But I did not click it.

Yeah it's so strange, here's what I read about it so far https://www.seroundtable.com/google-vote-trump-analytics-spam-22966.html

http://misfitinteractive.com/blocking-russian-and-referral-spam-from-google-analytics/

This ^ is the best one, but I'm not sure I completely understand how to block them, and if it's necessary...hopefully someone with more knowledge on this situation will drop an answer...

Yes, I have, 78 to be exact. Thaks for the heads up.

I have that message too, for about 3 weeks i think. I didn't pay any attention to it and of course i didn't click it. The last 3 days i do get some weird traffic from Russia too. I don't know if it has anything to do with Trump (i doubt though). For now i just ignore it.

DON'T CLICK THAT LINK, I didn't mean to make one...It was just a copy and paste for example....

I thought there was an agreement. or rather, regulation, not to talk about politics. We are a multinational community.
You are writing:
"I did hear of a conspiracy that the Russians hired some of their people to become trolls on the internet and sway the American's to vote for Trump". You know this for a fact or you "did hear"?
In case it's a fact, it's still not the topic for a discussion...:)

well I don't mean to make it a political post...it's just the content of what I'm dealing with...the conspiracy was just in connection to what I was seeing. Sorry if it offends you, maybe I should have omitted that part...but this is where I heard it https://youtu.be/OauLuWXD_RI

and the fact that I have that in my analytics is a topic of discussion...please help

Politics is a dirty business, Michael. People are paid money to say these or those things. It's not by chance that Kyle and Carson try to keep the community free from politics...:))

Hmm... I didn't regard this as a political post at all. You just stated something you'd heard in relation to this problem you were having with your analytics right? Well that's how I saw it... :) like you say, it was within context of what your problem was - not in any sense a motivation to spark political debate. Anyway-I haven't had this problem myself yet- I hope you sort it!

I wasn't speaking about the whole post, just a part of it, in connection with the "Russian trolls on the internet and them swaying Americans vote for Trump".
That was all.

Totally agree with what you have said. This post is not about politics. As far as I'm concerned, he just wants to know if anyone has experienced the same thing, which I have as well. I count this post as a warning to all of us to be careful.

I have had 78 visits from Russia on my site. At first, I thought it was visitors from south of the equator because they will be coming into their camping season soon. But, after doing a little more investigation on my analytics I was surprised to find so many from Russia. Two places in particular.

Anyway, I appreciate the post and the heads up. I certainly WON'T be clicking on any links from there anytime soon.

You interpreted my post the way I intended! Thank you :)

Thank you for sharing Wayne66, I have the same situation.

1

Goodness...that sounds alarming...!!!
My only advice would be DON'T OPEN ANYTHING if you are asked to!

Definitely not! Haha it is just skewing my data in analytics so I don't know what to do or if it is negatively effecting my sites
