Why do companies hire people?
I spent 35 great years in the executive search business. i learned a lot during three and a half decades. The first thing I learned was who was the customer and why do they want to bring a new person onboard?
Here is the answer to the riddle. Companies only hire to solve the company's problem. If they are hiring a senior position in the C suite or an entry level position, they have a problem they don't have the internal resources to solve so they call me.
I placed many candidates for my clients and nearly all were successful. I worked very hard to make sure my client had the best possible person available in that market.
If you are interviewing, the way to approach the interview is to interview like you are the answer to their problem. Some of the most successful candidates I have had led off the interview with this question. "What problem are you hoping to solve by hiring me?" Candidates that asked that question first, got a lot of traction up front. From then on, it was a conversation.
