Open a Paypal account and make sure you choose a Premier account so that you can accept payments. Do not get a business account, there is a fee. Try the "Nice PayPal Button Lite" plugin. You can link your Paypal account to the plugin and put it anywhere on your site.

I started the business account. but stopped prior to confirmation, it didn't seem right. can I go in and change or will I be blackballed or something
No, you should be fine just going in and changing it. If anything stupid happens just shoot a message to their customer support and explain you hit the wrong button. They are pretty easy to deal with.
