Why Google Doc Is Awesome!

I am such a late bloomer, but I am still going to write about this as if NOBODY KNEW about google doc until I said something about it lol...

Ok...so my friends tease me often because I am JUST NOW getting hip to google doc, and they knew about it since college...which was 10 years ago.

I started using it in April in order to write poetry. I saw that there was an app that you can add to your phone and I instantly fell in love...

It's like having Microsoft Word wherever you go!

Since then, I have been using it for EVERYTHING; songs, poetry, books, blogs you name it. Here are my reasons for loving google doc.

1. It's like having Microsoft Word on all of your devices.

Cell phone, iPad, tablet, laptop you can LITERALLY edit any document you want on the go! I tend to be out the house a lot, and I love the fact that I no longer have to wait until I get home to type up my blogs or work on my book. It has all the basic necessities you need to create a polished formatted document.

2. It saves automatically like...every 5 seconds!

We have all fallen victim to writing the PERFECT document only to log out and forget to save (moment of silence...). That is a horrible feeling for any writer. If you are good about saving your work no matter what, than what may not be as avoidable is the dreaded computer freeze. Either way your precious work is lost; not so with google doc. It updates so often that you can add a LETTER, and the next time you open it that new letter will be there. Sweet!

3. It frees up space on your computer by saving all your work to google drive.

Word documents are not big files to begin with, but if you do a lot of writing it's good to save yourself a few gigs of space by letting your google drive do all the work. By doing so, you can access any document anywhere you go.

4. Highly sharable!

It's easy to send files to others. All they would need is a gmail account and you can then invite them to view any document you'd like! You have full control of what the invitee is able to do in regards to your document:

View: They can only read your document.

Comment: They can leave feedback.

Edit: They will be able to make changes to your document.

I use the "edit" option quite often. I have a songwriting group and we share our documents and add on lyrics via internet when we are unable to meet up for an actual writing session or to get us through to the next one. How cool is that?

5. Converts any word document into a goggle document.

It never hurts to have your work saved in more than one place, and if you have a word document it can be imported and stay as a word doc, or you can convert it into a google doc.

6. Copy/Paste very well into Wordpress Editor.

I remember watching a video within the WA certification courses and learned that word docs are formatted in a way that is not all that compatible with Wordpress editor. So I decided to use my google document instead to test out how it would transfer. So far it has done so FLAWLESSLY. It kept all of my formatting; including the bolds, bullet points, and spacing. Had no problem at all with it, so you won't have to worry about compatibility issues as far as I can see. For this reason, I type all my blogs and get them just the way I want in google docs first, then I copy/paste into Wordpress editor and from there I add my images. Now my blog is backed up just in case I do something goofy within editor and lose my content.

So once again, google shows us exactly why it is the head honcho in the cyber world. In no way am I telling you to not use Microsoft Word ever again; I still have my document types that I wholehearted prefer to do in Word than google doc, but for my blogs this is a God send. ;-)
